Job description
Join our team as a dedicated scientist and contribute to our exciting research projects. Our work focuses on models and algorithms for supervised and unsupervised learning. We devise deep learning models, which find application in image-based science, including in collaboration with domain scientists on and off campus in fields like remote sensing, microscopy of cell colonies, plant sciences, health-care, and MRI imaging. Our mission is not only to create accurate solutions but also quantify model uncertainties, analyze robustness, reliability, and trustworthiness of AI models, and develop methods for explainability of AI solutions.
As part of our team, youll have the opportunity to develop novel learning methods, investigate application and adaptation of foundation models, devise efficient training schemes for large models on high-performance computers like JUWELS and JUPITER at the Jülich Supercomputing Center. If youre passionate about AI research and eager to make a real-world impact, we want to hear from you!
Your Job:
- Work on a wide range of computer vision and machine learning methods and applications focusing on the aspects outlined above, inspired by the needs of societally relevant applications, e.g. from neuro- or plant sciences.
- Advance our understanding of the underlying theory, as well as applicability to scientific applications, where explainability, interpretability, and reliability are as important as high accuracy.
- Supervise student projects at BSc, MSc, and PhD level.
- Work with experts at the Jülich Supercomputing Centre (JSC) to run your algorithms/tools on large distributed computer systems.
- Write reports and research articles, as well as grant proposals, and regularly participate in international conferences to present your own work.
Requirements
- Master with subsequent PhD degree in computer science (or a related field)
- Rich experience in devising machine learning models, methods, and algorithms for computer vision and image processing.
- Scientific track record with publications at internationally renowned venues in machine learning.
- Solid mathematical background, distinct analytical and numerical skills.
- Solid programming skills (e.g. Python, C++)
- Excellent ability to cooperate with other sciences and to work as part of a diverse team, interdisciplinary and cross-topical thinking.
