Job description

Help build the future of fonQ's E-commerce Platform Are you a senior developer ready for the next challenge and craving real technical depth? This is your chance to make a meaningful impact.

At fonQ, you'll work on complex, high-impact initiatives that shape our business and daily operations at scale. Our high-traffic e-commerce platform serves millions of customers every day, which means the technical choices you make are felt immediately-by users, partners, and the business.

We're in the middle of a major transformation, moving from legacy systems to a modern, scalable Symfony-based architecture. This journey is about much more than rewriting code; it's about redefining how we build, scale, and operate our platform for the future. We're looking for a senior PHP developer with strong hands-on coding skills and a clear technical vision to help drive this change.

You thrive in complex technical environments and take ownership of challenges from start to finish. You design robust, maintainable solutions, actively contribute to architectural direction, and think ahead about long-term impact. With your experience, you confidently challenge technical decisions, propose smart solutions, and help guide the technical direction. You enjoy sharing your knowledge and helping your team level up on best practices.

Your key responsibilities include, but aren't limited to:

  • Build, test, and maintain software that makes an impact-robust, scalable, and clean.

  • Designing smart, future-proof solutions that scale with the platform.

  • Challenge existing designs and decisions to ensure we build the right solutions

  • Work closely with product, engineering, and key stakeholders to align technical choices with business goals.

  • Conduct code reviews that raise the bar on performance, scalability, and maintainability.

  • Create clear technical documentation, workflows, and best practices to keep the team aligned.

  • Troubleshoot and solve challenging technical issues in both production and test environments.

You're comfortable working in an agile, Scrum-based environment, adapted to our context, and actively help shape how we work as a team. As we continue to modernize and scale, you'll play a key role in transforming our platform and setting the technical standard for the future.

Initiatives you might work on include:

  • Smarter pricing & promotions: implement and optimize a new promo engine, enabling advanced promotion constructs across our Shopify platform.

  • Scaling e-commerce operations: enhance dropshipping, warehouse systems, and marketplace seller integrations to make our backend faster, smarter, and ready for growth.

  • Collaborate with an agency and our developers to implement a new ERP backbone and streamline all integrations and middleware for a solid, scalable foundation.

Requirements

  • Strong hands-on PHP framework skills: You have at least 5 years of experience with PHP and a modern framework such as Symfony or Laravel. You are confident in building robust integrations, middleware, and systems. You have a deep understanding of SOLID principles and know how to apply them in practice.

  • You keep data flowing smoothly SQL databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, and automate testing, deployment, and monitoring like a pro. You feel comfortable working with cloud platforms like GCP or AWS, whether using Compute Engine, Cloud Functions, Kubernetes, or equivalent services.

  • You are experienced in working with event-driven architectures, building systems that communicate reliably through events and asynchronous workflows. You create and integrate well-structured APIs and understand how to apply Domain-Driven Design principles to create clear boundaries within a service.

  • E-commerce familiarity: If you've built products or systems for e-commerce even better. Understanding how an e-commerce-first company works (like fonQ) will help you get started quickly. Bonus experience: Working with complex data models and SaaS systems is a plus.

  • Education: You think and work at a Bachelor's or Master's level.

  • Communication: You explain technical concepts clearly, whether you're talking to teammates or non-technical stakeholders.

  • Personal qualities: Flexible, self-starter, hands-on, structured, solution-oriented, and always eager to learn.

IMPORTANT: Fluency in English and the ability to work in a hybrid setup are strict requirements. If you don't meet these, please don't apply, as we won't be able to consider your application.
