Job description
Server & Virtualisation Management
- Support and maintain Windows Server environments including Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS and DHCP.
- Administer VMware vSphere hosts, clusters and virtual machines, ensuring performance and resilience.
- Manage server patching cycles, firmware upgrades and hardware maintenance activities.
- Oversee capacity, performance and lifecycle management across on-prem server estates.
Storage & Backup
- Support enterprise storage platforms including provisioning, performance monitoring and troubleshooting.
- Manage backup technologies including scheduling, recovery testing and policy maintenance.
- Contribute to disaster recovery planning, documentation and regular failover testing.
Azure Infrastructure
- Administer Azure Virtual Machines, storage accounts, networking components, monitoring and access controls.
- Apply best practice around governance, cost management, resilience and security.
- Assist with hybrid identity configurations and integration with on-prem Active Directory.
Security & Compliance
- Maintain secure configurations across servers, virtualisation, storage and cloud services.
- Support vulnerability remediation, patching, and compliance activities.
- Contribute to DR readiness and documentation.
Service Improvement & Support
- Resolve escalated issues from the Service Desk and act as a subject matter expert for infrastructure services.
- Produce and maintain documentation, runbooks and operational processes.
- Identify opportunities for improvement across monitoring, automation and platform efficiency.
Projects & Enhancements
- Deliver infrastructure upgrades, migrations, configuration improvements and lifecycle activities.
- Support senior engineers and architects on larger transformation programmes.
- Contribute to roadmaps for cloud adoption, automation and modernisation.
Requirements
- Strong experience supporting Microsoft server technologies (Windows Server, AD, GPO, DNS, DHCP).
- Hands-on experience administering VMware vSphere environments.
- Demonstrated experience with server patching and firmware upgrades.
- Experience supporting enterprise storage platforms.
- Practical experience with backup technologies and recovery testing.
- Good understanding of Azure infrastructure services and hybrid cloud integration.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex issues across servers, storage, virtualisation and cloud workloads.
- Clear written communication and the ability to document processes effectively.

About the company
This is your chance to join a truly iconic Midland's retail group. Due to ongoing company expansion, we now have an opportunity for an Infrastructure Engineer to join my clients team.
You will help support, maintain and develop our clients on-premise and Azure infrastructure platforms. This is a hands-on technical role suited to someone experienced in Microsoft server technologies, virtualisation, storage, backup, identity and Azure services.
You will play a key part in: ensuring our clients core infrastructure remains secure, stable and fit for purpose across both data centre and cloud environments plus also you will take ownership of day-to-day support, troubleshooting, service improvement and the delivery of infrastructure changes.
This role is ideal for an engineer looking to broaden their responsibilities across hybrid platforms while remaining deeply hands-on.
