Job description

Some IT Manager roles are all meetings and no hands-on.

Others are all hands-on with no real influence.

This one sits right in the middle - and that's the appeal.

You'll be trusted to run the internal IT function, lead a small team, and make sensible decisions about how the infrastructure evolves. When things need fixing, you're happy to get involved. When things need improving, you know how to set direction and bring people with you.

This role is with a technology business delivering UK-wide solutions, and you'll play a key part in keeping their systems secure, reliable, and ready to scale., * Autonomy: Real ownership of the IT estate and how it's run

  • Balance: Hands-on technical work alongside team leadership
  • Influence: A genuine voice in technical decisions and long-term planning
  • Environment: Modern infrastructure, cloud-first direction, security taken seriously

What you'll be responsible for

  • Leading and developing a small, distributed IT team
  • Overseeing day-to-day IT operations while driving longer-term improvements
  • Managing infrastructure across on-prem and cloud platforms
  • Ensuring security, compliance, and resilience are built into everything
  • Owning incident management, root cause analysis, and preventative action
  • Planning and delivering infrastructure upgrades and IT projects
  • Keeping documentation, monitoring, backups, and asset management tight
  • Working closely with senior stakeholders and external partners
  • Supporting the ongoing move from on-prem environments to cloud services

Requirements

  • A strong background in IT infrastructure and operations
  • Experience managing or leading an IT team
  • Solid knowledge of Windows Server, networking, virtualisation, and M365
  • Confidence working with security standards and best practices
  • The ability to make decisions, prioritise effectively, and take ownership
  • Clear, calm communication, especially when things aren't going to plan
  • Bonus points for cloud, automation, or security tooling experience

This role suits someone who wants responsibility without red tape, leadership without losing their technical edge, and the chance to genuinely improve how IT supports the wider business.
