Job description
As a Test Engineer, you are characterizing and mapping out the battery's performances under certain boundary conditions together with Stack R&D program leads to achieve the company's goal of delivering flow battery products to the market. A big portion is still including hands-on work to identify the performance limitations in the current technology and solve the most important challenges. The daily activities consist of interacting with stakeholders, writing test plans and technical reports, performing experiments, and post-mortem analysis. You are a member of the Stack R&D Team and report to the Team Leader Stack R&D.
- Prepare the design of the experiment to study the influence of dependent parameters
- Characterize and improve the Elestor's flow battery performance, under predefined goal and boundary conditions
- Understanding the trade-offs - cost vs performance, knowing the markets & customers
- Study the material degradation mechanism and the performance decay rate
- Perform characterization measurements (SEM/EDX, TEM, CV, XRD, UV-Vis, FTIR, ICP-MS, Raman spectroscopy, contact angle, tensile-strength test, etc.)
- Document & communicate the relevant research outputs: protocol, report, presentation
- Implement the solutions and transfer the knowledge to other departments
Requirements
The ideal candidate has proven skills, knowledge of, and experience with data management of electrochemical systems, e.g., flow batteries, PEM fuel cells, and electrolyzers. Proven track record of asking the right questions and coming up with innovative, out-of-the-box solutions and ideas.
Supporting product development, you have strong communication skills with both scientists and engineers of various disciplines internally and negotiating with different stakeholders. You are excellent in stress and time management and can keep working in a safe and structured way, while under pressure to meet deadlines and targets.
- Prepare the design of the experiment to study the influence of dependent parameters
- Experience in testing electrochemical systems is a must (e.g. battery, fuel cells, or electrolyzer)
- Experience in material characterizations is a plus
- B.Sc. (HBO level) or M.Sc. degree
- Data analytic expertise, eye for details
- Highly motivated, extremely organized, and self-driven individuals. Proven ability to challenge the status quo and ask the right questions
- Experience with fuel cell, electrolyzer, or flow battery development is an advantage
- Proven ability to introduce and implement creative, innovative solutions
- Strong communication skills and giving presentations for interdisciplinary teams
- Hands-on, can-do mentality
- Passionate in clean energy, green hydrogen, and electrical energy storage technologies
- Fluent in English
- Experience with working in an international company or international experience
- An entrepreneurial mindset
