Job description

CalMac Ferries Limited are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Product Owner to lead the sourcing, development and optimisation of digital and technology solutions that support eBooking and associated technologies. This is a strategic role within the IT function of a major transportation sector organisation, responsible for aligning product roadmaps with business goals and ensuring that IT products deliver measurable value. As the IT Product Owner (eBooking) you will work with customers and customer facing colleagues to translate strategic objectives into clear product outcomes, and to shape, prioritise, and deliver a single, outcome-led roadmap and backlog for the eBooking product domain. You will work closely with stakeholders, UX designers, developers, and third-party vendors, owning the end-to-end customer experience, including delivery, operation, and continual improvement, and ensuring the solutions are intuitive, scalable, and aligned with the company's technology transformation goals. The IT Product Owner will require to have strong experience in managing delivery of technology and digital solutions in a highly available operational environment combined with a publicly visible brand, championing Agile and DevOps practices to enable frequent, low-risk change.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Own the IT product vision and roadmap for the ebooking solution, including both internal colleague and external customer-facing technologies and digital platforms.
  • Work in partnership with Customer Facing colleagues and IT Colleagues to create or source technology and digital solutions that meet the needs of business stakeholders
  • Define and track product outcomes and KPIs (e.g., adoption, conversion, customer effort, operational efficiency), ensuring delivery is focused on what creates real value.
  • Champion digital innovation and identify opportunities to modernise legacy capabilities or optimise processes using technology.
  • Translate business needs into clear product outcomes, epics, and user stories with success criteria / acceptance criteria to support development or procurement of agile, resilient, and secure solutions.
  • Prioritise and maintain a single product backlog based on tangible benefit and customer outcomes, balancing risk, cost, technical constraints, and delivery dependencies.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between business stakeholders and delivery teams (internal and external).
  • Champion digital innovation and identify opportunities to modernise legacy systems or optimise existing processes using technology.
  • Lead product discovery efforts and facilitate workshops and interviews to elicit requirements.
  • Collaborate with UX/UI designers, developers, analysts, and testers to deliver high-quality solutions.
  • Track KPIs and business outcomes to ensure product success and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure that products are compliant with data protection, cybersecurity, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support change management, training, and communication to ensure smooth product adoption
  • Own the ongoing evolution of the product in live service, including incident learnings, customer feedback, defect trends, and technical debt, ensuring continuous improvement is planned and prioritised.

Requirements

Do you have experience in Sourcing?, * Proven experience (5+ years) as a Product Owner / Product Manager (or similar) delivering customer-facing and/or colleague-facing digital products in a live operational environment.

  • Strong understanding of Agile delivery (Scrum, SAFe) and working in cross-functional product teams, ideally alongside DevOps/service ownership practices.
  • Demonstrable capability in backlog ownership: writing user stories, defining acceptance criteria, prioritising trade-offs, and managing product lifecycle from discovery to live service.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills: able to align diverse business needs and make clear prioritisation decisions within agreed guardrails.
  • Ability to translate complex problems into simple, intuitive digital solutions; strong customer-centric mindset.
  • Data-literate: comfortable using analytics to define outcomes, measure performance, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Experience with modern SaaS platforms and integrations (e.g., SAP, Dynamics) and understanding of API integrations and data flows across enterprise systems.
  • Familiarity with change management, digital transformation, and enterprise architecture principles.
  • Strong appreciation for cybersecurity, data governance, resilience, and compliance in high-availability services.
  • Ideally Agile certification (e.g., CSPO, SAFe PO/PM) and experience with product tooling (Jira, Confluence, Azure DevOps).
  • Experience within transportation, travel, or mobility sectors desirable.
  • Strong appreciation for cybersecurity, data governance, and compliance
  • Strategic thinker with a pragmatic, delivery-focused mindset.
  • Comfortable navigating a complex stakeholder environment.
  • Strong communicator, both written and verbal.
  • Passionate about technology and its ability to drive business value
  • Conversational Italian language skills would be an advantage.
