Job description
This role aligns closely with publicly recognised IT Business Relationship Manager (IT BRM) models and sits at the intersection of business strategy, enterprise applications, and finance. The postholder acts as the primary relationship manager between Data & Technology and senior business stakeholders, with a particular focus on finance-enabled systems, enterprise applications, and value realisation.
The role is intentionally balanced: approximately 50% strategic business relationship management and portfolio ownership, and 50% application and ERP oversight. While SAP Business One remains a key system, the role is not SAP-centric; instead, it owns the broader applications landscape through a strong finance and commercial lens.
The IT BRM is accountable for ensuring that application investments deliver measurable business outcomes, support acquisitions and integration activity, and are governed, optimised, and adopted effectively., Business Relationship Management (IT BRM Core)
- Act as the strategic interface between Data & Technology and senior stakeholders across Finance, HR, Operations, and Central Functions.
- Build and maintain trusted, value-focused relationships, positioning Technology as a business partner rather than a service provider.
- Understand business strategy, financial drivers, and operational priorities, translating them into a clear applications and investment roadmap.
- Facilitate regular demand, portfolio, and value-review discussions, ensuring transparency of priorities, costs, risks, and benefits.
- Represent business demand within Technology governance, influencing prioritisation and investment decisions.
Applications & ERP Portfolio Ownership
- Own the end-to-end lifecycle of key business applications, including ERP, finance, CRM, operational, and planning systems.
- Provide functional oversight of SAP Business One as part of the wider applications portfolio, ensuring it supports finance, reporting, and acquisition integration needs.
- Lead application optimisation initiatives, focusing on usability, data quality, reporting, and process efficiency rather than technical configuration alone.
- Ensure effective integration between ERP, finance systems, CRM, data platforms, and operational tools.
- Act as the intelligent customer for third-party vendors, system integrators, and managed service providers.
Finance Lens & Value Realisation
- Apply a strong finance and commercial perspective to all application and technology decisions.
- Partner closely with Finance leadership to ensure systems support accurate financial control, management reporting, and planning.
- Support business case development, benefits realisation tracking, and cost/benefit analysis for application investments.
- Ensure application roadmaps align with financial cycles, acquisition activity, and Group reporting requirements.
Service Management & Governance
- Define and manage application service expectations using a tiered Gold, Silver, and Bronze model based on business criticality and risk.
- Act as an escalation point for application-related service issues, ensuring resolution aligns with business impact.
- Ensure applications comply with Group IT policies, cybersecurity standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Identify and manage application and data risks, including resilience and continuity considerations.
Change, Adoption & Continuous Improvement
- Lead or support application-enabled change initiatives, ensuring adoption and value realisation across both office-based and field-based users.
- Work with Product Owners, delivery teams, and vendors to translate business outcomes into practical solutions.
- Champion continuous improvement across processes, data quality, and application usage.
- Stay informed of industry-standard BRM practices and emerging application technologies relevant to finance-led organisations.
