Job description

My client, a technology-driven organisation, is hiring a Senior Linux System Administrator to join an established infrastructure team operating in a hybrid working environment. This is a key role focused on the design, support, and continuous improvement of Linux-based systems across on-premise and cloud platforms.

As a Senior Linux System Administrator, you will take ownership of Linux infrastructure in production environments, working closely with development and operations teams. You will design and implement automation, support databases, monitor system performance, respond to incidents, and contribute to improving reliability and security across the platform.

Requirements

  • Strong hands-on experience administering Linux (Debian-based) systems in production
  • Proficiency in shell scripting (Bash, Python or similar) for automation and tooling
  • Solid understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, routing, firewalls, VPNs, load balancing)
  • Experience managing and supporting databases such as:

PostgreSQL * MySQL / MariaDB * Cloud-managed database services

  • Proven ability to diagnose and resolve complex system issues
  • Strong documentation skills with experience creating runbooks and operational procedures
  • Excellent communication skills, able to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience implementing security best practices, patching, and access controls
  • Familiarity with incident, change, and problem management processes

Desirable

  • Experience with public cloud platforms and core infrastructure services
  • Exposure to monitoring and observability tooling
  • Familiarity with infrastructure as code, CI/CD pipelines, or configuration management tools
  • Experience operating high-availability or large-scale environments
  • Exposure to real-time or communications-based platforms
