Job description

We're recruiting an experienced MFG/PRO (QAD) Developer for an enterprise organisation operating in industrial manufacturing (multi-plant, multi-country), where ERP uptime and data accuracy directly impact production schedules, customer deliveries, and financial close.

This is a true "core systems" role. The platform is stable and heavily relied upon, but the business is investing in sensible modernisation: cleaner custom code, stronger release controls, improved integrations, and better reporting. You'll join a team that sits close to operations, so your work will be visible and high impact.

What you'll be doing

You'll work across enhancements, integrations, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement, partnering with manufacturing, warehouse, planning and finance stakeholders., * Build and enhance MFG/PRO (QAD) functionality to support evolving operational needs across manufacturing and supply chain.

  • Design and deliver clean, supportable customisations (with attention to maintainability, upgrade safety, and performance).
  • Develop and maintain integrations across the ERP landscape: EDI, APIs, XML/JSON, and flat-file feeds (SFTP, scheduled jobs).
  • Support end-to-end testing cycles: SIT, UAT, regression, and performance testing, ensuring traceability and release confidence.
  • Diagnose and fix production issues quickly: data defects, posting failures, interface errors, batch job problems-driving root cause resolution.
  • Optimise performance: database tuning, batch scheduling improvements, query efficiency, and reducing long-running processes.
  • Produce technical documentation: interface specifications, mapping documents, runbooks, release notes, and support knowledge articles.
  • Contribute to standards: code reviews, development patterns, environment controls, and deployment procedures.

Tech stack (what you'll be working with)

This role suits someone comfortable in mature ERP estates who also enjoys modern integration and delivery practices., This is a hands-on role supporting operational workflows end-to-end, typically including:

  • Manufacturing execution (work orders, confirmations, scrap/rework, labour reporting)
  • MRP / planning (demand, supply, scheduling, lead time impacts)
  • Inventory & warehouse (receipts, movements, cycle counts, pick/pack/ship)
  • Procurement (PO lifecycle, supplier flows, approvals)
  • Order-to-cash (sales orders, allocations, deliveries, invoicing)
  • Finance (GL postings, AP/AR interfaces, period close support, audit extracts)

What success looks like in the first 3-6 months

  • You'll take ownership of key MFG/PRO areas and become a trusted escalation point for enhancements and incidents.
  • You'll stabilise at least one high-impact integration or batch process (reliability + performance improvements).
  • You'll strengthen delivery quality (better regression discipline, clearer documentation, safer releases).
  • You'll contribute to a pragmatic roadmap: reduce technical debt while supporting ongoing operations.

Requirements

  • Strong experience with QAD MFG/PRO (ERP customisation and support in live manufacturing environments)
  • Progress / OpenEdge ABL (4GL) development (or strong exposure through MFG/PRO technical work)
  • Solid SQL skills (querying, troubleshooting, performance awareness, transactional integrity)
  • ERP integrations: EDI, flat-file, and service-based patterns (REST APIs / web services exposure highly valued)
  • Understanding of controlled change/release environments (versioning, testing evidence, and operational stability)

Highly desirable

  • QXtend / QAD integration frameworks (or equivalent enterprise integration layers)
  • Reporting/analytics: QAD reports, BI extracts, data feeds to downstream reporting platforms
  • Experience with multi-site ERP estates: master data governance, inter company flows, multi-currency impacts
  • CI/CD or automation exposure (build/release scripting, repeatable deployments, environment promotion discipline)
  • Knowledge of ERP security/roles, audit controls, segregation of duties, and traceability requirements, * Proven experience delivering and supporting MFG/PRO (QAD) in production
  • Strong problem-solving across ERP process + technical layers (interfaces, data, batch, performance)
  • Comfortable collaborating with operations and finance stakeholders in fast-moving environments
  • A quality-led mindset: clean code, clear documentation, testing discipline, and measured change

Benefits & conditions

  • Salary: £50,000 - £65,000 (depending on experience)
  • Bonus: (performance-related)
  • Working pattern: Hybrid or Remote (depending on location and site access needs)
  • Time off: Generous annual leave + company shutdown days (site dependent)
  • Pension / Retirement: Employer contribution 6% + employee match up to 3% (total up to 9%)
  • Healthcare: Private medical (with dependent options) + dental/vision (plan dependent)
  • Life cover: 4x salary life assurance + income protection
  • Extras: wellbeing allowance, employee assistance programme, discounted share/bonus schemes (where available)
