Job description
The Data Lead owns the organisation's end-to-end data and business intelligence capability. This includes defining and delivering the data and BI strategy, owning ETL from source systems through to trusted reporting, and ensuring strong data governance, compliance, and prioritisation.
The role is accountable for the BI platform, Product Information Management (PIM), and data privacy obligations including GDPR and DSARs. The Data Lead leads a small specialist team, chairs the Data & BI Steering Group, and is the single point of accountability for data standards, prioritisation, and outcomes.
Main responsibilities:
Data & BI strategy
- Define and own the data and BI strategy aligned to business objectives
End-to-end data ownership
- Own ETL pipelines from core systems through to the BI platform
- Design and maintain data models, semantic layers, and KPI definitions
- Ensure a single, trusted source of truth across operational and executive reporting
Governance & prioritisation
- Establish and chair the Data & BI Steering Group
- Own demand intake, prioritisation, and trade off decisions across data, BI, and PIM
- Define and enforce data governance covering quality, lineage, access, and privacy
- Balance robust controls with practical business usability
Information management & compliance
- Own Product Information Management (PIM) from a data and governance perspective
- Be accountable for GDPR obligations including DSARs, retention, and audit readiness
- Act as escalation point for data quality, product data, and regulatory risk
Stakeholder partnership
- Act as the senior interface between data, IT, and business teams
- Translate complex data into clear, actionable insight
- Challenge poor data practices and embed data-led decision making

Requirements
Do you have experience in SQL?, * Proven experience leading a data or BI function with people management responsibility
- Strong hands on capability in Power BI, SQL, and data modelling
- Demonstrable ownership of ETL pipelines from source systems to reporting outputs
- Experience defining and delivering data and BI strategy aligned to business goals
- Strong understanding of data governance, data quality, and access control
- Practical experience managing GDPR obligations including DSARs
- Ability to set standards, prioritise demand, and make trade off decisions
- Confident communicator able to translate complex data into clear business insight
