Job description

New Forest District Council is on a journey of major transformation. While we prepare for this exciting change, we need a skilled professional to maintain and protect our existing ICT services. Cyber security is critical to ensuring our systems remain secure and resilient during this period of transition., We are seeking a Cyber Security Analyst (Fixed term for 12 months) to provide backfill support for our Business as Usual (BAU) activities. You will play a key role in safeguarding council services by investigating incidents and alerts raised by our Security monitoring and endpoint protection systems. This is an opportunity to work within a dedicated ICT team that values collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement. Key Responsibilities

  • Investigate incidents and alerts from Cyber Security systems

  • Support incident response and vulnerability management processes.

  • Assist with maintaining security controls across cloud and on-premises environments.

  • Collaborate with ICT colleagues and stakeholders to embed security best practices.

Requirements

Do you have experience in ITIL?, * Strong understanding of working in a Security operations (SOC) environment

  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft security products (Sentinel, Defender XDR)

  • Ability to investigate identity-based alerts (AAD/Entra ID)

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Desirable Skills

  • Familiarity with KQL for querying logs

  • Knowledge of ITIL processes and security certifications (e.g., Cyber Essentials, ISO 27001).

  • Experience in local government or public sector environments.
