Job description

We have an incredible opportunity to join us here at Phoenix Group as a an experienced Senior Network Engineer working within a busy environment of project delivery and operational support. You will also have the opportunity to develop professionally including training and exposure to multi-cloud networking technologies in AWS and Azure., Location: This role will be based in either our Edinburgh or Birmingham offices with time spent working in the office and at home.

As a Senior Network Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering high quality network services across both project and operational environments., * Project Delivery & Design

  • Lead project-based network engineering activities, including solution design, implementation, and documentation.

  • Act as a lead SME across strategic initiatives and project workstreams.

  • Take full ownership and accountability for network-related project deliveries, ensuring alignment with strict project timelines and quality standards.

  • Operational Support & Stability

  • Ensure the stability, performance, and scalability of all network services across the estate.

  • Work closely with BAU incident management teams, providing expert support and taking ownership of network-related incidents and issues.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement activities to enhance service reliability and operational efficiency.

  • Lifecycle & Platform Management

  • Manage the lifecycle of Cisco network infrastructure as well as key network security platforms, including:

  • Fortigate

  • Cisco Firepower

  • Forcepoint

  • Skyhigh Web Gateway

  • FortiSASE

  • Ensure appropriate patching, upgrades, capacity planning, and long-term evolution of these technologies.

OnCall & Out of Hours Support

  • Provide oncall and weekend support as required to maintain service continuity and respond to critical incidents.

Requirements

Essential:

  • Cisco certified to CCNP level or equivalent experience.

  • Strong working knowledge of core network technologies: LAN / WAN, Firewalls ( Fortigate, Cisco Firepower, Forcepoint) routers, load balancers, web proxies (Sky high) Virtual networking, Network monitoring platforms (Solarwinds, Logic Monitor, PRTG)

  • Experience with managed WAN services (MPLS/VPLS) and solid understanding of BGP and OSPF routing protocols.

  • Ability to produce high quality technical documentation.

  • Experience collaborating with managed service providers and technology partners to support long term strategic goals.

  • Strong understanding of ITIL incident and change management processes.

Desirable:

  • Experience applying security and risk management controls, ideally within the financial sector.

  • Awareness of the CBEST threatintelligence and penetrationtesting framework.

  • Exposure to cloud networking technologies (Azure, AWS, Aviatrix) and modern SASE/SDWAN solutions.

  • Knowledge of VXLAN technologies and architecture.

Benefits & conditions

Salary and benefits: £55,000 - £65,000 plus an indicative bonus range of 16-32%, private medical cover, 38 days annual leave, excellent pension, 12x salary life assurance, career breaks, income protection, 3x volunteering days and much more.
