Job description
The DevOps Engineer will support the delivery and live operation of digital services, ensuring platforms, pipelines and environments are secure, automated and aligned to UK Government Digital Service (GDS) standards.
The role focuses on enabling reliable, repeatable and compliant delivery through CI/CD automation, Infrastructure as Code and strong operational engineering practices within a regulated government environment.
Deliverables
- CI/CD Automation & Engineering Standards
- Deliver automated CI/CD pipelines aligned to UK Government engineering standards and secure-by-design principles.
- Implement consistent, repeatable build, test and deployment processes across multiple environments (Dev/Test/Pre-Prod/Prod).
- Embed automated quality assurance, security scanning and compliance controls within pipelines.
- Contribute to engineering standards and reusable pipeline patterns.
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
- Implement and maintain Infrastructure as Code using approved tooling (eg Terraform, ARM, CloudFormation).
- Ensure all environments are version-controlled, auditable, secure and reproducible.
- Promote immutable infrastructure principles and eliminate configuration drift.
- Support secure cloud configuration aligned to Hthe clients technical standards.
- Platform Reliability & Observability
- Deliver monitoring, logging and alerting solutions that meet operational and compliance requirements.
- Enhance system reliability, resilience and performance through proactive engineering improvements.
- Implement actionable alerting and support incident response processes.
- Ensure services meet operational readiness criteria prior to transition to live.
Requirements
- Demonstrable experience delivering DevOps capability within UK public sector or similarly regulated environments.
- Strong hands-on experience with CI/CD tooling (eg Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins or similar).
- Experience implementing Infrastructure as Code in cloud environments (Azure preferred).
- Experience with containerisation and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Strong understanding of security, compliance and DevSecOps principles.
- Experience delivering monitoring and observability solutions (eg Azure Monitor, App Insights, ELK, Prometheus/Grafana).
- Experience working within agile, multidisciplinary teams.
