Job description

The University of Nottingham is looking to appoint a Database Administrator (DBA) specialising in database administration of MySQL, with the ability to provide operational support on a range of database platforms in a large and complex IT infrastructure. You will play a key role in contributing towards the on-going support, maintenance, design, development and management of our core IT services as well as contributing to our IT modernisation programme., This position is offered on a permanent basis. Hours of work are full time (36.25 hours per week) however applications are also welcome from candidates wishing to work part-time (minimum 29 hours per week). Please specify in your application if you wish to work part time and the number of preferred hours. Job share arrangements may be considered.

Requirements

You will have a strong technical background and be familiar with MySQL, or other databases, preferably in a Linux environment in a busy organisation. You may have some experience as a DBA or have a keen interest in moving into this type of role, as we are happy to provide some training to the successful candidate.

In addition, you would benefit from a broad understanding of a number of platforms, products, services and technologies with demonstrable recent experience in current versions, while having experience in the support, maintenance and configuration of relevant infrastructure technologies.

Equally important is your approach to work, for instance highly motivated with a keen willingness and demonstrable ability to learn, with strong analytical problem-solving skills and great attention to detail, good communication and documentation skills and the ability to work under pressure. You will be working on routine service requests and issue/incident resolution, while working within a structured IT Service Delivery Framework (for instance, ITIL).
