The ServiceNow Development Lead is a key role within the IT Service Management function, responsible for the technical leadership, governance, and delivery of development activities on the ServiceNow platform.
The role ensures that ServiceNow solutions are designed and built in a scalable, secure, and upgrade-safe manner, aligned with platform strategy, enterprise architecture, and business priorities. Acting as the technical lead for ServiceNow development, the incumbent provides hands-on expertise, sets development standards, mentors internal developers, and ensures high-quality delivery across ITSM and other ServiceNow capabilities.
Main Tasks and Responsibilities

- Translate functional and business requirements into robust technical designs, ensuring alignment with ServiceNow best practices and platform strategy.
- Define, implement, and enforce development standards, guidelines, and guardrails (coding standards, scoped applications, update set management, CI/CD, documentation).
- Lead solution design for ServiceNow customizations, configurations, integrations, and automation, ensuring upgrade safety and long-term maintainability. -term maintainability.
- Act as the technical authority for ServiceNow development, performing design and code reviews to ensure quality and consistency.
- Guide and mentor internal ServiceNow developers and administrators, supporting capability building and knowledge sharing.
- Coordinate and oversee development work delivered by external partners, ensuring adherence to Sulzer standards and quality expectations.
- Collaborate closely with ServiceNow platform owners, product owners, process owners, architects, and ITSM stakeholders.
- Ensure effective use of ServiceNow platform capabilities, promoting "configuration over customization" and reuse of standard functionality.
- Own the technical lifecycle of developments across environments (development, test, production), supporting release and deployment activities.
- Support integration design and implementation (REST, APIs, middleware, MID Server), ensuring reliable and secure data exchange.
- Monitor and continuously improve platform performance, stability, and technical debt.
- Maintain technical documentation, design artefacts, and development of runbooks.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, automation, and innovation across IT Service Management and adjacent domains.
Requirements
Do you have experience in UI?, Do you have a Bachelor's degree?, * 5+ years of hands-on experience with ServiceNow development in large, complex enterprise environments. -on experience with ServiceNow development in large, complex enterprise environments.
- ServiceNow certifications (e.g., Certified System Administrator, Certified Application Developer, CIS certifications).
- Proven experience in a technical lead or senior developer role, guiding development teams and delivery (internal and external).
- Strong expertise in ServiceNow development and configuration, including:
- JavaScript (server-side and client-side)
- Business Rules, Script Includes, UI Policies, Client Scripts
- Flow Designer and IntegrationHub
- Service Portal / UI Builder
- ACLs, data policies, and security model
- PowerShell scripting
- Solid experience with ServiceNow ITSM, CSM, SPM; exposure to additional modules (ITOM, ITAM, HRSD) is an advantage.
- Experience designing and managing integrations using REST/SOAP APIs and MID Servers.
- Strong understanding of ServiceNow release management, upgrade-safe development, and environment management.
- Experience working in agile delivery models and collaborating closely with product and process owners.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and operate effectively in a transforming organization.
- Native-level proficiency in oral and written English.
- Would Be a Plus:
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Familiarity with CI/CD concepts and DevOps tooling for ServiceNow.
- Knowledge of ITIL practices and IT Service Management processes.
- Experience working with outsourced development partners or system integrators.
- Exposure to CMDB, CSDM, and service-oriented data models
