Job description

As an SRE Engineer at ING, you'll play a key role in enabling our Always Available mindset by helping teams improve observability, performance, and operational ecellence. If you love solving problems, eperimenting with new technologies, and empowering engineering teams, this role is for you.

The team

You will join the Wholesale Banking (WB) SRE team, working closely with DevOps squads across the organization. Together, we drive reliability practices, improve availability of critical services, and raise SRE maturity standards. Our culture is deeply collaborative and supportive - we run hackathons, weekly support sessions, and hands-on training to uplift teams.

Roles and responsibilities

  • Organize and participate in support and training initiatives such as mini hackathons and weekly SRE support sessions.
  • Contribute to automating build, test, and deployment practices through CI/CD pipelines.
  • Drive the 'Always Available' mindset and help identify gaps in SRE knowledge.
  • Provide resources, skills, guidance, and training to DevOps teams.
  • Contribute to global standards for logging, monitoring, and alerting, and support teams in implementation.
  • Participate in observability maturity assessments and SRE evaluations. Initiate and run e
  • periments with new tools and concepts.
  • Improve incident response practices and support escalated/critical incidents.
  • Participate in Root Cause Analyses and help implement improvements.
  • Enable automatic reporting and feedback loops.
  • Tune application resources and improve high-availability deployment patterns.
  • Drive initiatives like AI Ops, Chaos Engineering, Cloud migrations, and Error Budgeting.
  • Participate in platform tests (DDOS, DR, Ceiling/Break, Penetration).
  • Assist with implementing Service Level Objectives (SLOs).
  • Prepare training content on reliability topics.

Requirements

  • Good knowledge of at least one programming language (Python required; Java is a plus).
  • Understanding of relational or NoSQL databases. Eperience with Linu/Uni
  • /Windows systems. E
  • perience with monitoring tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, and OpenTelemetry.
  • Knowledge of Git, Ansible, and Azure DevOps.
  • Strong problem-solving mentality and curiosity mindset.
