Job description

We are recruiting a highly technical IT Manager to take ownership of day-to-day IT operations across a growing, multi-site business.

This IT Manager role is predominantly technical in year one. You will operate at L2/L3 level, lead escalations, drive Microsoft 365 improvements and take control of infrastructure and cyber standards across the estate.

The purpose of this IT Manager hire is to take operational IT ownership so the IT Director can focus on long-term strategy and growth.

Year One Focus - Technical Ownership

For at least the first 6-12 months, this IT Manager role is 80-90% hands-on technical.

You will:

  • Own and improve the Microsoft 365 tenant including Exchange, Teams and SharePoint
  • Lead Entra ID, identity governance, MFA and conditional access improvements
  • Oversee Intune and endpoint compliance
  • Manage firewall configuration and network security governance
  • Drive cyber hygiene, patching and vulnerability remediation
  • Handle L2 and L3 escalations
  • Lead infrastructure project work
  • Document and rationalise the existing IT estate

You will not be fixing basic user issues. You will be operating at infrastructure and escalation level.

There is significant Microsoft 365 and governance work to embed properly.

The Team

There are already two strong IT Technicians in place, one at each site. They are capable and experienced.

Initially, this IT Manager role is about technical ownership rather than people management. As the position progresses, you will increasingly:

  • Provide technical direction to the technicians
  • Formalise escalation standards
  • Take on vendor and supplier management
  • Own day-to-day operational IT governance

The leadership and vendor management elements grow within the first 12 months as the function matures.

Environment & Location

  • Leicester and Swindon sites
  • Predominantly office-based role
  • Weekly Swindon travel likely
  • Multi-site and international footprint, This IT Manager opportunity offers genuine technical ownership in year one, with progression into broader operational leadership as the business scales.

Requirements

  • Strong hands-on Microsoft 365 administration
  • Practical Entra ID and identity governance experience
  • Solid infrastructure background in an SME or multi-site environment
  • Network and firewall governance exposure
  • Cyber security operational experience
  • Experience dealing with L2/L3 escalations and infrastructure projects
