Job description

We are seeking an experienced Operational Technology Manager to play a key role in delivering the next phase of our Smart Campus strategy.

This strategically important position supports a complex estate of over 250 buildings, including laboratories, teaching spaces and offices. Sitting at the intersection of estates operations, digital infrastructure and data, you will help shape a connected, intelligent and performance-driven building environment.

Your work will directly influence performance across cost, carbon, compliance, connectivity and comfort ensuring our buildings are robust, efficient and measurably smarter.

Working within a small, highly skilled multidisciplinary team, you will lead the integration of BEMS, metering, IoT sensors, analytics platforms and cybersecurity principles into a coherent operational technology ecosystem. Collaboration, clarity and disciplined delivery are central to how we operate. We are looking for someone methodical in approach, comfortable working within agreed standards and governance, and motivated by collective success.

This is an opportunity to influence long-term estate optimisation while remaining close to technical delivery.

What will you be doing?

  • Leading operational support of BEMS and connected building systems
  • Driving integration between operational technology, digital systems and analytics platforms
  • Overseeing deployment of smart technologies such as metering and occupancy sensors
  • Improving data quality, connectivity and system resilience
  • Developing standards for OT architecture, cybersecurity and interoperability
  • Managing specialist contractors and integrators
  • Working collaboratively across Estates and Campus Division to ensure coordinated delivery
  • Applying a structured approach to configuration, commissioning, documentation and change management
  • Contributing to business cases and long-term investment planning
  • Embedding continuous improvement principles across safety, compliance and system performance

Requirements

  • You have significant experience in BEMS, building controls or operational technology within a complex estate
  • You are structured and methodical, with strong documentation and governance discipline
  • You understand OT/IT integration challenges and can work confidently across both
  • You are technically credible but able to think strategically
  • You are comfortable working with data and analytics tools
  • You are a collaborative team player who values shared standards and accountability

Experience within higher education, healthcare or similarly complex estates would be advantageous.
