Job description

As a Scientific Programmer, you will join a team dedicated to advancing systems engineering capabilities within the high-tech industry. You'll help elevate the way complex software-intensive systems are designed and developed, building on insights generated through collaborative research with leading organizations in the semiconductor, imaging, medical technology, defense, and logistics automation sectors.

You'll be part of a strategic research team exploring next-generation capabilities for software-intensive high-tech systems and applications. These teams often work closely with partners on-site, enabling you to engage directly with real industrial challenges. Your focus will be on systems engineering for complex and evolving high-tech environments, particularly around system performance. The mission: bringing state-of-the-art methodologies into industrial practice and supporting organizations in meeting their most pressing engineering needs.

Current research activities span various aspects of system performance. One example involves defining a future-proof execution architecture for a distributed high-tech system. This work includes automatically deriving models from operational machine data, then using these models to evaluate how changes in hardware, software, and deployment strategies influence system performance and cost. You'll contribute to research, build proof-of-concepts, shape scenario-based solutions, demonstrate business value, and help transition results into real-world industrial settings., * Investigate complex systems engineering challenges and develop innovative concepts to address them.

  • Build prototypes that illustrate technical insights and validate assumptions.
  • Explore multiple solution scenarios and provide clear understanding of their benefits, constraints, and industrial applicability.
  • Support the adoption of new methodologies and tools within industrial environments., At S[&]T we contribute to a safer life on earth by translating space data into valuable and actionable insights. We oversee data from instruments to application, and apply our expertise within our software frameworks, information products and consultancy.

Our society relies on space and scientific instruments for climate change monitoring, navigation, defence and national security, and other crucial services we all use in our daily lives. These instruments produce an enormous quantity of complex data, and our goal is to unlock its value.

We have more than 20 years of experience working on instrument calibration, the creation of data quality monitoring tools, the development of real-time data processing frameworks, and the development of application-specific algorithms. With this, we help organisations, governments and industries to strengthen their information position and thereby improve their decision making. We focus on the following domains: Space & Science, Defence & Security, Environment & Sustainability, and High-Tech Consulting.

Requirements

You thrive in a research-driven, collaborative environment and enjoy turning complex challenges into tangible improvements for engineers and organizations. You're motivated, curious, and committed to delivering high-quality results while continuously learning from colleagues and real-world cases.

You also bring:

  • An academic degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • A blend of academic and professional experience.
  • Strong interest in systems engineering for complex high-tech systems, model-driven engineering, and embedded or real-time software development.
  • Experience analyzing system performance across multiple abstraction levels-from subsystem behavior and dependencies to low-level aspects such as CPU scheduling or cache effects.
  • Familiarity with modeling languages such as SysML, UML, BPMN, and tools like MATLAB/Simulink (a plus).
  • The ability to energize a group and foster constructive collaboration.
  • A natural tendency to view challenges from a systems perspective (business, customer, and technology).
  • Confidence in leading and facilitating discussions with diverse stakeholders toward shared research goals.
