About the company

EvoMG-DN integrates Evolutionary Medicine and Medical Genomics into a new field: Evolutionary Medical Genomics (EvoMG). By combining evolutionary principles with cutting-edge genomic tools, the network aims to uncover the mechanisms shaping human health, disease susceptibility, and therapy resistance. Doctoral candidates will contribute to three major research themes: * Ageing and age-related diseases: Exploring the genetic basis of lifespan and resilience using unconventional model organisms such as killifish and bats. * Cancer evolution and therapy resistance: Studying how tumours adapt under treatment, developing evolutionary-informed therapies, and applying liquid biopsy technologies in collaboration with industry. * Pathogen evolution and immune system ageing: Investigating antibiotic resistance, host-pathogen interactions, and age-related changes in immune repertoires. Training and opportunities EvoMG-DN is more than a research programme-it is a comprehensive doctoral training environment. Each candidate will: * Conduct a 3-year, 36-month fellowship project embedded in one of 11 host institutions across Spain, France, Germany, Ireland, Portugal, Sweden, and the UK. * Undertake international and intersectoral secondments, including placements in biotech companies, hospitals, and partner laboratories. * Receive structured training in core EvoMG methods: comparative omics, genetic diversity analysis, mathematical modelling, machine learning, and the use of model organisms. * Develop transferable skills such as scientific communication, project management, entrepreneurship, and responsible research. * Benefit from tailored mentorship and close supervision by world-leading researchers, including multiple ERC awardees. Why join EvoMG-DN? * Cutting-edge science: Work at the frontier of genomics, evolution, and medicine. * Interdisciplinary exposure: Combine experimental and computational approaches. * Career development: Gain skills for careers in academia, biotech, data science, and clinical research. * International network: Join a vibrant European consortium with global connections, including Duke University and EMBO. * Societal impact: Contribute to evolution-informed solutions to major health challenges.
