Job description
The post holder will help co-ordinate the Trust's self-assessment against national standards for Information Governance, educate and inform emp-0loyees about their own responsibilities for acting within the law and ensure that the public and staff are informed of their rights under the Act. Furthermore, the post-holder will be responsible for ensuring employees comply with all aspects of the Freedom of Information Act and Environmental Information Regulations as well as helping to develop and maintain the Trust's publication scheme., 1. Develop a working knowledge of the General Data Protection Regulation, Data Protection Act, Freedom of Information Act and Environmental Information Regulations though self-study and course attendance so that advice can be provided to staff and requesters concerning the application of the legislation. Ensure that knowledge and understanding of the subject area remains up-to-date.
- Draft and maintain suitable and relevant departmental policies and ensure they are reviewed routinely, and / or when appropriate in-line with changes to legislation and best practice
- Work with the Caldicott Guardian and Information Governance Manager to maintain the information asset register and educate information asset owners on their responsibilities for ensuring appropriate use of the data contained within those assets and ensuring the appropriate access controls are in place and maintained.
- Manage all aspects of the Freedom of Information and Environmental Information Regulations request administration. Ensuring compliance with legislation, including the development, implementation and enforcement of suitable and relevant operating procedures e.g., receiving, logging and responding to requests for information, providing advice and assistance to requesters and manag8ing complaints.
Requirements
- Demonstrable knowledge of the UK GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018, Freedom of Information Act 2000, and the Data Use and Access Act 2025 and the applications thereof, particularly processing FOI and Subject Access requests., * Ability to produce clear, accurate, and legally compliant written responses for external requesters and internal stakeholders., * Proven ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously, prioritise effectively, and work to tight deadlines., * High level of accuracy when handling information, applying exemptions, and maintaining records., * Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately and in line with legal and organisational requirements., * Confident use of standard office IT systems (e.g. email, document management, spreadsheets) to log, track, and manage requests., * Previous experience working in information governance, FOI, or a similar regulatory role within the NHS or wider public sector., * Practical experience identifying and applying FOI exemptions and carrying out redactions, with appropriate escalation of complex cases., * Experience liaising with internal departments to obtain information and support timely, accurate responses., * Evidence of maintaining up to date knowledge of information governance and FOI legislation and best practice through training or self study.
