Job description

This role is offered as part of our TechTrack apprenticeship programme and is for an apprentice Cyber Security Technologist .

Our provider for the Cyber Security Technologist TechTrack Apprenticeship will be Estio., As a TechTrack apprentice in Cyber Security you will be part of a cross government community working to protect critical systems and services. In this role, you will:

  • You will identify cyber security concepts such as threats, methods used by attackers and then apply cyber security best practices.
  • You will be investigating and determining how to apply the significant law, regulations and standards relevant specifically to cyber security
  • You will gain knowledge of computer networking essentials, how they operate, protocols, standards, security considerations and a range of networking technologies as well as gain the basic terminology and concepts of cryptography and common cryptography techniques in use.
  • You will identify the main types of common attack techniques. the apprentice will gain an understanding of the role of human behaviour, including the significance of the 'insider threat'
  • You will investigate and analyse the principles of security management systems.
  • You will gain knowledge of common security architectures and methodologies.
  • You will gain knowledge of horizon scanning including use of recognised sources of threat intelligence and vulnerabilities.
  • You will learn how to analyse employer or customer requirements to derive security objectives and taking account of the threats and overall context develop a security case which sets out the proposed security measures in the context with reasoned justification

Skills you will gain during the apprenticeship

  • You will learn how to identify and mitigate cyber vulnerabilities to ensure systems remain secure.
  • You will learn how to analyse security threats and hazards, and will be able to conduct a Cyber Risk Assessments and security design.
  • You will gain the skills on how to research attack techniques and recommend defence strategies.
  • Support risk assessments, audits, and incident management for cyber security.
  • Develop security designs that meet defined cyber security parameters.
  • Configure and deploy cyber security technology to protect networks and systems.
  • Write program code or scripts to enhance security for systems and networks.
  • Produce reports and presentations, communicating your findings effectively.

Person specification

We are looking for people who can demonstrate their love of technology, and their eagerness to learn and grow their careers in government., * Next step would be to complete an assessed apprenticeship-based activity in which if the applicant is successful will progress onto the next stage.

  • The next stage will include self-assessments; these assessments will be used to scan the applicant?s suitability, eligibility and readiness for the role.
  • You will be invited to attend a final stage interview with BPP/Estio where applicants will be provided with the relevant time and information to prepare for beforehand.
  • If successful at the interview stage, the candidate will be shortlisted and eligible for any upcoming opportunities.

DSIT cannot offer Visa sponsorship to candidates through this campaign. DSIT holds a Visa sponsorship licence but this can only be used for certain roles and this campaign does not qualify. Feedback will only be provided if you attend an interview or assessment. Security Successful candidates must undergo a criminal record check. We would like applicants to have some of the following things:

  • An interest in Cyber Security.
  • Knowledge in Networking. And how to secure a basic network
  • Knowledge on information security.
  • An awareness on how to program code such as understanding python.
  • Have at least a grade C (4/5) and above in both GCSE English and GCSE Maths., * Hold a level 3 or equivalent IT related qualification or have at least a year?s worth of IT related work experience.
