Job description
Our client is seeking skilled Data Center Technicians to support a large technology organization in the Reno, NV area. This role focuses on the installation, decommissioning, and maintenance of network and cabling infrastructure within a data center environment.
Technicians will be expected to deliver high-quality, repeatable solutions, follow industry best practices, and collaborate closely with multiple stakeholders to ensure project success.
Key Responsibilities
- Install and decommission network equipment and structured cabling infrastructure in a data center environment
- Perform rack-and-stack activities, including copper and fiber cabling
- Install ladder racking and seismic bracing above and below raised floors
- Read, interpret, and redline blueprints, floor plans, and design documentation
- Dress, route, terminate, label, and test copper and fiber cabling
- Perform fusion splicing (ribbon and single fiber, OSP/ISP)
- Conduct copper and fiber testing and troubleshooting using approved testers (DSX 5000, OTDR)
- Program testers and download, save, verify, and submit test results via LinkWare / LinkWare Live
- Create and apply mass labels per port maps
- Differentiate live cables from decommissioned cabling
- Conduct service swaps of live networking devices
- Maintain data center cleanliness and demonstrate quality workmanship at all times
- Follow all production, safety, quality standards, and industry best practices
- Maintain accurate documentation and orderly paperwork
- Provide structured project updates and feedback to stakeholders
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve project obstacles
Requirements
- Broad understanding of data center infrastructure technologies
- Experience with copper (Cat5/Cat6) and fiber optic cabling
- Knowledge and use of basic telecom hand tools
- Ability to pull low-voltage cabling and perform field terminations
- Familiarity with wiring schemes, labeling standards, and testing procedures
- Experience installing and organizing MDF and IDF closets
- Ability to read and understand blueprints and design documents
- Basic understanding of copper and fiber testing and troubleshooting
- Experience working in live data center environments
Preferred / Additional Qualifications
- Experience with fiber trunk dressing and furcation for splicing
- Understanding of FIM (Fiber Infrastructure Management) databases and scanner operation
- Strong customer service mindset
- Clear understanding of job safety requirements
- Ability to manage service jobs independently
- Experience maintaining accurate documentation and reports

This is a Contract position based out of Sparks, NV.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr.
