Job description
The Library and Information Science ( LIS) Department in the School of Communication and Information (SC&I) at Rutgers University, New Brunswick, seeks a professional and innovative full time non-tenure track ( NTT) instructor to teach multiple sections of programming courses in the Information Technology and Informatics program, with an emphasis on Python programming fundamentals, data engineering, and data science. All courses are taught on the Rutgers University-New Brunswick campus, conveniently located with easy access to transit options through downtown New Brunswick. In addition to teaching multiple sections of the course, this position will contribute to the success of the IT & Informatics major through activities such as student advising, course and curriculum management, and peer teaching evaluations. The workload of non-tenure track teaching faculty members is teaching four courses per semester plus service, or the equivalent in combinations of teaching and service. This appointment is renewable upon successful performance review and the assessed continuing need for the position., This position will be responsible for:
- Teaching multiple sections of courses in the IT & Informatics program including 04:547:202 Object-Oriented Programming and 04:547:221 Fundamentals of Data Curation and Management, with an emphasis on programming fundamentals and data engineering, using the Python programming language.
- Student mentoring and advising in areas closely related to the course topics listed above.
- Overseeing student tutors in areas closely related to the course topics listed above.
- Working closely with the Program Director of IT & Informatics as well as SC&I Student Services on course and curriculum management in areas closely related to the course topics listed above.
Requirements
A masters degree or Ph.D. is preferred, but we will consider applications of those with a B.S. in a relevant area (e.g., Computer Science, Information Science, Information Technology, or Data Science) who have substantial evidence and track record of successful teaching in the given areas., All offers of employment are contingent upon successful completion of all pre-employment screenings.
