Job description

Are you looking for a fast-paced and challenging position that will provide you with extremely valuable SQL Database Administration experience, extensive variety, and frequent exposure to managers and staff in the Information Technology Branch? The Employment Development Department (EDD) is looking for a highly motivated and qualified individual to work in the SQL Server Database Administration Group. The Information Technology Specialist I provides technical expertise as a Microsoft SQL Server Database Administrator for the SQL Server Database Group at EDD. Responsibilities include engineer level technical tasks to produce a robust SQL server environment. In addition to performing maintenance, operations, and enhancement tasks in the SQL environment, the database administrator works collaboratively with ITB support teams to ensure the successful integration of SQL databases with applications, troubleshoots SQL database related application issues, test new patches and new releases, and assists in resolving critical production failures. This position may be eligible for a hybrid work schedule. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and is subject to change as business needs arise. Employees are required to report to their headquarters office on their assigned in-office days. Travel expenses to and from the assigned headquarters are the responsibility of the employee. Background Investigation Requirement

The position(s) may require an applicant to pass a background investigation. However, applicants will not be asked to provide information about a conviction history unless they receive a conditional offer of employment.

The department will make an individualized assessment of whether the conviction history has a direct or adverse relationship with the specific duties of the job and the work performed by the department. The department will consider potential mitigating factors, including, but not limited to, evidence and extent of rehabilitation, recency, nature and seriousness, and age at the time of the offense(s).

The investigation will consist of completion of a personal history statement and fingerprinting checks with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Department of Justice, and/or local law enforcement agencies. Anyone failing to pass the background investigation will be provided information on how to appeal the process. A criminal conviction may not result in an automatic determination of "Not Qualified."

Additional Department Information

The Employment Development Department may require a new probation in accordance with applicable probationary period rules.

Requirements

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server Database Administration with knowledge and hands-on skills supporting a production database in all operations, such as troubleshooting daily operational issues.
  • Experience with SQL Server performance tuning, backup/restore, troubleshooting and Problem resolution.
  • Designing, enabling and maintaining SQL Server high availability capabilities (preferably SQL Always On Availability Groups) in complex environment and mission critical applications.
  • Experience with automation and scripting in Power Shell.
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) and Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).
  • Experience with Cloud based Database Services (Preferably AWS Relational Database Services).
  • Experience with Windows Server Administration.
