Job description

The Position is headquartered in Sacramento.

Effective July 1, 2025, The California Department of Human Resources (CalHR) implemented the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025). PLP 2025 directs that each employee shall receive a 3 percent reduction in pay in exchange for 5 hours PLP 2025 leave credits, monthly. The salary range(s) included in the job advertisement do not reflect the 3 percent reduction in pay.

Under the general direction of the Technical Services & Infrastructure Support Branch Chief, the Information Technology Specialist I (ITS I) performs a wide variety of tasks requiring regular innovative problem-solving within broadly stated and non-specific guidelines. The ITS I is primarily responsible for overall Network Administration duties for the California Department of Aging (CDA). The CDA network infrastructure consists of on-prem and cloud based solutions and includes various Windows Servers with file and print services, Intranet, SharePoint/OneDrive, Teams, Microsoft Exchange/Outlook messaging services and multiple models of Windows workstations. It also includes gateways, firewalls, switches and Wi-Fi equipment.

Requirements

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

  • Ability to travel to and from our field office, without delay, to troubleshoot and repair equipment.
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems while maximizing efficient use of network resources.
  • Self-motivated, independent, highly reliable, problem-solver, collaborator.
  • Experienced with deployment, administration and troubleshooting of Firewalls, Wi-Fi Controllers and Managed Network Switches in cloud and on-prem environments.
  • Experience planning, testing, implementing and/or integrating new network solutions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with customers and stakeholders.
  • Experience with administration of cloud and on-prem network systems and solutions such as Wi-Fi Controllers, Firewalls, Managed Switches and networked UPS., 1. Describe your experience with your most difficult network infrastructure project and how you were able to complete it.

About the company

The California Department of Aging (CDA) administers programs that serve older adults, adults with disabilities, family caregivers, and residents in long-term care facilities throughout the State. The Department administers funds allocated under the federal Older Americans Act, the Older Californians Act, and through the Medi-Cal program. Recognizing that California's over-65 population is projected to grow to 8.6 million by 2030, Governor Gavin Newsom issued Executive Order N-14-19 calling for the creation of a Master Plan for Aging to be developed by December - 2020. The Master Plan will serve as a blueprint that can be used by state government, local communities, private organizations, and philanthropy to build environments that promote healthy aging. CDA will play an integral part in the development and implementation of the Master Plan.
