Job description
The IT Systems Administrator II provides advanced technical support and administration of systems and infrastructure for the Hemophilia and Thrombosis Center (HTC). This position is responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and security of servers, systems, and applications that support Clinical, Research, Pharmacy and Administrative functions. This role operates with a moderate level of independence and serves as a key resource for troubleshooting complex issues, implementing system improvements, and ensuring compliance with university and healthcare regulatory requirements, including HIPAA., Systems Administration (40%)
- Administer, configure, and maintain enterprise systems including Windows servers, virtual environments, and associated applications
- Monitor system performance, availability, and reliability, implementing tuning and optimization strategies
- Manage identity and access services including Active Directory, group policy, and account lifecycle management
- Maintain documentation for system configurations, procedures, and standards
Infrastructure & Network Support (20%)
- Support network infrastructure including switches, firewalls, VPN, and wireless connectivity
- Assist with system integrations and infrastructure upgrades
- Coordinate with campus IT and external vendors to ensure alignment with enterprise architecture
Security & Compliance (20%)
- Implement and maintain security controls in accordance with HIPAA, University of Colorado policies, and industry best practices
- Perform system patching, vulnerability remediation, and endpoint protection management
- Support audits and ensure proper handling of protected health information (PHI)
- Maintain backup and disaster recovery processes
Customer Support & Issue Resolution (10%)
- Provide Tier 2/3 support for escalated technical issues impacting HTC staff, clinicians, and researchers
- Diagnosing and resolving complex hardware, software, and system issues
- Provide guidance and training to end users as needed
Projects & Continuous Improvement (10%)
- Participate in IT projects including system implementations, upgrades, and migrations
- Evaluate and recommend technologies to improve system performance and security
- Contribute to process improvements and operational efficiency initiatives
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, or a related field
- One (1) year of professional experience in systems administration, OR equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience administering Windows-based systems and enterprise applications
- Knowledge of networking fundamentals and security best practices, * Two (2) or more years of systems administration experience
- Experience in a healthcare, clinical, or academic research environment
- Familiarity with HIPAA and regulated data environments
- Experience with virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V)
- Experience with cloud services (Microsoft Azure or AWS)
- Relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified, CompTIA Security+, VMware)

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
