Job description

Are you looking to be part of a dynamic and inclusive team that protects the environment? The Department of Fish and Wildlife's Office of Spill Prevention and Response (OSPR) is seeking a motivated individual to work as an Economist, in the classification of Research Data Specialist II, located in OSPR's Headquarters office located in West Sacramento. Under the general direction of the Natural Resources Damage Assessment Unit Environmental Program Manager I, the Research Data Specialist II will be in a variety of technical roles in Natural Resources Damages Assessment cases following oil spills, and assist in method development and improvement efforts. The successful applicant will work in the natural resource damage assessment (NRDA) unit within the Resource Restoration Branch. Several challenging responsibilities will include serving as a natural resource damage assessment (NRDA) case lead following oil spills, and participation on multi-disciplinary teams that pursue compensatory restoration. You will work closely with another RDS II, legal staff, and a variety of scientists from the Department as well as multiple other Federal and State agencies. The greater Sacramento area offers a vibrant blend of California's history, diverse culture, and natural beauty, boasting a thriving farm-to-fork food scene, extensive river recreation, and a dynamic urban core, all while serving as the state's accessible capital near wine country and the Sierra foothills. This is a complex but fulfilling work is well suited for a professional economist that seeks fulfillment in environmental enhancements and restoration of natural and recreational resources, and possesses both strong technical and interpersonal skills.

Requirements

Ability to use a computer keyboard for several hours a day. Involves sitting most of the day. Occasional field survey work, off-site meetings and travel, up to 10%, and NRDA spill drills and exercises. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and travel using a State vehicle., Excellent verbal and written communication; willingness to perform work from remote locations on occassion, and to work in a team environment; and the ability to develop and maintain cooperative relationships with a diversity of individuals from other organizations, and governmental and non-governmental agencies., Individuals who are currently in the classification, eligible for lateral transfer, eligible for reinstatement, have list or LEAP eligibility, are in the process of obtaining list eligibility, or have SROA and/or Surplus eligibility (please attach your letter, if available). SROA and Surplus candidates are given priority; therefore, individuals with other eligibility may be considered in the event no SROA or Surplus candidates apply.
