Job description

Under the general direction of a Supervising Transportation Engineer, the Data Specialist is responsible for working within the office staff, with districts, cities, counties, transportation planning organization staff, other Caltrans Headquarters (HQ) Divisions/units, California Transportation Commission (CTC) and California State Transportation Agency (CalSTA) to develop and implement the Office of Project Development Management and Delivery (PDMD) Performance Measures Program. The Performance Measures Program includes developing and maintaining a project delivery database, identifying key performance indicators, assessing risk, assessing performance metrics, and monitoring performance goals. This position would also act as the data Subject Matter Expert (SME) for PDMD and potentially other offices and advise the Office Chief and management on future data needs in the division. Specific tasks would involve performing research and analysis to resolve complex data needs; identify new strategies to make the data processing more efficient at all levels; coordinate data migration for programs; assess and set up data platforms; lead effort to develop reporting templates; coordinate all efforts with Data and Digital Services and Data Governance group; lead the effort to set up dashboards in coordination with all other offices, divisions and districts., This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans's evolving telework policy. Caltrans supports telework, recognizing that in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksites with minimum notification if an urgent need arises. The selected candidate will be required to commute to the headquartered location as needed to meet operational needs. Business travel may be required, and reimbursement considers an employee's designated headquartered location, primary residence, and may be subject to CalHR regulations or applicable bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the headquartered location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate., * Possession of a valid driver's license is required when operating state owned or leased vehicles.
