Job description

We are seeking a contract Infrastructure Program Manager to lead a large-scale enterprise data center migration and transition initiative. Overview The Program Manager is responsible for the successful delivery of the overall program, including the coordinated management of multiple related projects and, in many cases, ongoing operations aligned toward a common objective. The Program Manager partners with project team members-who are accountable to the Program Manager for project execution and overall program impact-to monitor cost, schedule, quality, technical performance, and user outcomes across component projects and operations. This role ensures the program’s successful delivery by coordinating shared resources across projects to maximize program benefits. The Program Manager is also responsible for stakeholder management, particularly with external stakeholders. Responsibilities This role has overall responsibility for the planning, execution, and delivery of an enterprise infrastructure migration program spanning:

  • x86/distributed platforms (Windows, Linux, virtualization)
  • Network services (LAN/WAN, firewalls, load balancing, VPN, connectivity)
  • Storage, backup, and disaster recovery
  • Security services and compliance
  • Midrange platforms (IBM i, AIX)
  • Mainframe platforms (IBM Z/zOS)
  • Service management transition (incident, change, CMDB, monitoring)

Required Technical & Platform Knowledge Infrastructure Domains

  • Compute: x86, virtualization (VMware), hosted and private cloud
  • Storage: SAN/NAS, replication, capacity planning
  • Networking: routing, firewalls, load balancers, VPNs, segmentation
  • Backup and disaster recovery
  • Monitoring, observability, and CMDB/discovery tools
  • Security and compliance within regulated environments

Legacy & Enterprise Platforms Demonstrated experience managing programs involving:

  • Mainframe (IBM Z/zOS)
  • IBM i (AS/400) and/or AIX

Requirements

Experience coordinating parallel migrations and coexistence across:

  • Distributed systems
  • Midrange platforms
  • Mainframe environments

Migration & Transition Experience The ideal candidate must have led infrastructure migrations involving:

  • Physical and virtual data centers
  • Lift-and-shift, re-platform, and hybrid migration models
  • Complex cutovers with limited downtime windows
  • Decommissioning of legacy environments
  • Transition to managed service providers (MSPs)

Vendor & Managed Services Leadership

  • Proven experience managing outsourced infrastructure and MSP relationships
  • Ability to hold vendors accountable to SLAs, milestones, and contractual obligations
  • Experience governing large, multi-tower service providers across infrastructure domains

Required

  • 10+ years of infrastructure program or project management experience
  • 5+ years leading large-scale infrastructure or data center migrations
  • Experience governing programs spanning network, compute, storage, security, midrange, and mainframe domains
  • Experience managing a program comprised of multiple projects
  • Expertise in risk identification, mitigation, and contingency planning
  • Mainframe program experience
  • Experience developing business cases and project charters
  • Experience with the software development lifecycle (SDLC)
  • Experience managing multi-million-dollar projects
  • Knowledge of PMI principles and standard project management methodologies

Required Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
