Job description
IT Systems Management
- Provide specialist technical expertise in the management and support of Line of Business (LOB) systems, including Finance, HR, Stores, Fleet, Operational and other business-critical applications.
- Lead the development, implementation and continuous improvement of existing systems and new digital projects to meet business objectives.
- Manage day-to-day service requests and incidents using an IT Service Management (ITSM) platform, ensuring Service Level Agreements (SLAs) are achieved.
- Work closely with internal stakeholders and third-party suppliers to investigate, troubleshoot and resolve technical issues.
- Manage system infrastructure, ensuring compatibility, security, software licensing and IT asset management across all supported platforms.
- Participate in supplier meetings, procurement exercises, tenders and contract discussions, providing technical expertise and evaluating proposed solutions.
- Communicate technical issues, incidents and system changes effectively to users and key stakeholders.
- Assess, recommend and implement improvements to IT applications that enhance operational efficiency and service delivery.
- Coordinate system upgrades and change releases, ensuring appropriate change management processes are followed.
- Produce and maintain technical documentation, service transition documentation and operational procedures.
- Support operational risk management across digital services.
- Lead the analysis of business requirements, solution design, implementation, testing, documentation and ongoing support of complex IT systems.
- Design and deliver user training for business applications and ensure supporting documentation remains up to date.
- Support quality management initiatives and IT service best practice frameworks.
- Monitor system performance, capacity and availability, taking proactive action to maintain service reliability.
- Act as a senior point of contact during periods of business continuity or disaster recovery where required.
- Manage multiple priorities and deliver work effectively within changing deadlines.
Business Planning & Strategy
- Work collaboratively with senior stakeholders to support the delivery of organisational and digital strategy.
- Lead on the development of solutions to complex IT and business systems challenges.
- Provide expert advice, forecasting and technical input into organisation-wide transformation programmes.
- Support strategic improvements to Line of Business systems and wider digital service delivery.
- Contribute to the preparation of business cases, procurement documentation, tenders and supplier evaluations.
- Support the development of long-term IT strategies, service plans, budgets and investment planning.
Requirements
- Applicants must possess one of the following:
- Degree (or equivalent professional qualification) in ICT, Computing, Systems Development or a related discipline, and a minimum of two years’ experience in a Systems Manager or similar role;
OR
- Higher National Diploma (HND) in ICT, Computing, Systems Development or a related discipline, and a minimum of two years’ experience in a Systems Manager or similar role.
Essential Experience
- Experience managing, maintaining and upgrading complex IT systems.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills across enterprise applications and infrastructure.
- Experience working with multiple business systems and third-party suppliers.
- Experience delivering IT projects and implementing system improvements.
- Experience managing IT service requests, incidents and change processes.

Other Requirements
Full UK driving licence, or access to suitable transport to fulfil the requirements of the role.
