Job description
Professional Employment Group (PEG) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Network Engineer II to support a large-scale telecommunications and cable service provider environment in Reno, Nevada. This role will focus on maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing carrier-grade routing, transport, and aggregation infrastructure supporting critical production networks.
The ideal candidate will come from a service provider, telecom, ISP, or cable operator background and possess strong hands-on experience with carrier routing, MPLS, optical transport, and production maintenance activities. Key Responsibilities
- Support and maintain carrier-grade IP/MPLS, transport, and aggregation networks
- Troubleshoot network outages, performance issues, and routing incidents
- Perform root cause analysis and corrective actions during operational events
- Execute network upgrades, migrations, hardware replacements, and maintenance activities
- Implement configuration changes and validate production network performance
- Work closely with NOC, Engineering, and vendor support teams during incidents and planned maintenance windows
- Monitor network health and proactively identify reliability or capacity concerns
- Participate in on-call rotations and after-hours maintenance activities as required
- Create and maintain network documentation, MOPs, and operational procedures
- Support provisioning and turn-up activities for backbone and transport services

Requirements
Do you have experience in VPN management?, * 3-7 years of experience within service provider, telecom, cable operator, or backbone network environments
- Strong understanding of:
o IP Routing & Switching o MPLS o BGP / OSPF / IS-IS o Layer 2 & Layer 3 VPN technologies o DWDM and optical transport concepts
- Experience supporting production maintenance windows and outage response
- Ability to troubleshoot complex routing and transport issues in live environments
- Familiarity with network monitoring and troubleshooting tools
- Ability to execute Method of Procedure (MOP) documentation
- Strong communication and documentation skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
- JNCIA / JNCIS / JNCIP certifications
- CCNA / CCNP certifications
- Nokia or Ciena certifications preferred
