Job description

As a Senior Design Engineer, you’ll play a key role in leading the technical design and execution of a wide variety of land development projects. Working closely with Project Managers and firm leadership, you’ll oversee project design, mentor junior staff, coordinate with clients and regulatory agencies, and help ensure projects are delivered efficiently and to the highest quality standards.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead the technical design and development of residential, commercial, industrial, institutional, and mixed-use land development projects.
  • Prepare and oversee grading, drainage, utility, roadway, stormwater management, and erosion control designs.
  • Develop and review engineering plans, specifications, calculations, and construction documents using Autodesk Civil 3D and AutoCAD.
  • Coordinate project design with clients, architects, attorneys, surveyors, contractors, and other consultants.
  • Prepare technical reports, permit applications, engineering analyses, and supporting documentation for local, county, and state approvals.
  • Research and interpret zoning ordinances, land development regulations, and permitting requirements to ensure project compliance.
  • Conduct site visits, field investigations, and construction observations as needed.
  • Provide technical oversight and quality control throughout all phases of project development.
  • Mentor and support junior engineers by reviewing work, providing technical guidance, and fostering professional development.
  • Assist Project Managers with project scheduling, budgeting, workload planning, and client communication.
  • Manage multiple projects and priorities while maintaining exceptional quality and meeting project deadlines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline from an accredited college or university.
  • 5+ years of experience in civil engineering with a focus on land development design.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license, or actively pursuing licensure with the ability to obtain it in the near future.
  • Advanced proficiency in Autodesk Civil 3D, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong understanding of land development engineering, grading, stormwater management, utilities, roadway design, and site permitting.
  • Thorough knowledge of municipal, county, state, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Experience preparing engineering calculations, technical reports, cost estimates, and permit applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor junior staff and collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with a commitment to outstanding client service.
