Job description

  • Exposure to a broad range of systems, applications and stakeholders, A growing technology business based in Herefordshire is looking for an Application Software Developer to join its team.

This is a varied, hands-on role suited to someone with experience in software development, application development, mobile development, web development or analyst programming. You will be working alongside another Software Developer and the wider technical team, helping to design, build, test, integrate and improve software applications across the business.

The role will involve developing and supporting a mixture of Android, desktop, web and internal business applications. You will be involved across the full software development lifecycle, from understanding requirements and developing solutions through to testing, integration, QA, release and ongoing improvement.

This would suit someone who enjoys more than just heads-down coding. You will be working closely with product owners, technical colleagues, operational teams and users to ensure software solutions are practical, robust and fit for purpose.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain and improve software applications
  • Work across Android, desktop, web and internal business systems
  • Support development from requirements through to release
  • Work with users and stakeholders to understand requirements
  • Translate requirements into practical software solutions
  • Write clean, maintainable and flexible code
  • Test applications and resolve bugs or technical issues
  • Support integration between systems, applications and equipment
  • Maintain and update application databases
  • Improve existing applications to enhance functionality and performance
  • Support application release, QA and testing processes
  • Create prototypes and present technical ideas where required
  • Troubleshoot software and application issues
  • Work closely with colleagues across different technical and operational areas

Requirements

Essential:

  • Experience in software development, application development, mobile development or web development
  • Android Studio experience
  • Java and/or Kotlin experience
  • JavaScript, PHP and HTML experience
  • Experience working across the software development lifecycle
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical users
  • Comfortable working in a collaborative team environment
  • Able to manage changing priorities and work to deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail

Desirable:

  • SQL experience, including MySQL or Microsoft SQL Server / T-SQL
  • CSS
  • Azure DevOps
  • Debian or Linux exposure
  • Experience working with bespoke APIs
  • Experience with testing, QA or release processes
  • CI/CD exposure
  • Secure development practices
  • Experience integrating software with external systems, applications or equipment

This is a full-time, office-based role in Herefordshire.
