The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitations is seeking a conscientious applicant who can improve collaboration and execute IT service delivery to various programs that supports CDCR mission.
| Under direction of the Information Technology Supervisor II, the Information Technology Specialist I (ITS I) is a member of a multi-disciplinary team consisting of technical support analysts. The position performs independently, with minimum supervision, and is responsible for advanced personal computer (PC) support and network connectivity. The position leads technical staff that provides first line support for personal computer workstation installation, problem diagnostics, and resolution, training and customer support. Duties extend to provide support for planning, acquiring, researching and evaluating new technology and products to be used within the current technical environment. The position establishes and maintains constructive professional relationships with the bureau’s PC customers and must effectively communicate technical information with them, including those customers considered to be non-technical., Applicants who completed their education outside of the US (with foreign degrees/transcripts) must obtain and submit verification of U.S. course/degree equivalency. Foreign education credential evaluation services can be found at NACES | National Association of Credential Evaluation Services. |
Candidates new to CDCR/CCHCS are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, as well as a Tuberculosis test/evaluation prior to appointment, followed by department annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.

Individuals who are eligible for a Training and Development assignment may also be considered for this position(s)., In addition to evaluating each candidate’s relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
- Possess strong writing, analytical, and research skills with the ability to compose accurate, concise, and detailed written determinations and proposed decisions;
- Ability to learn advance troubleshooting of technology issues
- Possess the ability to communicate professionally and effectively, both verbally and in writing, including the ability to negotiate credibly and persuasively, with a variety of stakeholders;
- Demonstrate ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously and effectively;
- Exercise good judgement, work well under pressure, and meet deadlines;
- Demonstrate strong organizational and time management skills in a fast-paced environment; and
- Possess excellent interpersonal skills to deal effectively with difficult, sensitive, and confidential matters.
- Configuring, managing, and troubleshooting various hardware, software, and mobile devices
- Strong verbal and written communication skills including IT documentation

- Ability to handle concurrent assignments and changing priorities
- Exercise good judgement, work well under pressure, and meet deadlines

Calipatria State Prison (CAL) opened in January 1992. It is a male-only state prison located in the city of Calipatria, in Imperial County. Although located about 3 miles from the center of Calipatria, the prison is within the city limits. The primary mission of CAL is to protect the public by providing safe custody, quality health care and the appropriate supervision of sentenced offenders. This facility is also used by Immigration and Naturalization (ICE) to incarcerate immigrants who have been detained and are close to being released. The weather in the area is desert-like, cold in winter and very hot in summer.
