The Development and Events Manager plays a key role in advancing The School’s mission through strategic communication, storytelling, and community engagement. This position is responsible for developing and implementing communication strategies that strengthen The School’s brand, enhance community relationships, and support institutional priorities across development, admissions, and school programs.
This role oversees internal and external communications to ensure consistent messaging across all platforms and audiences, including students, families, staff, donors, and community partners. The Development and Events Manager works collaboratively with school leadership and departments to promote programs, events, fundraising initiatives, and institutional achievements while supporting transparency and engagement throughout the School community. Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Implement strategic communication plans that support The School’s mission, goals, and community engagement efforts
- Create, edit, and oversee content for newsletters, social media, website updates, publications, marketing materials, and other communication platforms
- Collaborate with leadership and departments to ensure consistent messaging and timely communication of school initiatives, programs, and events
- Support development and advancement initiatives through donor communications, campaign messaging, event promotion, and storytelling
- Lead logistics and strategic coordination, in conjunction with the Director of Development, for bi-monthly Friends of Creekside events, End of Year Annual Appeal campaign, Better Together initiatives and events
- Lead community engagement fundraisers and outreach initiatives including partnerships such as Erik’s Deli fundraising events, Goodwill Donation Drives, resource fairs, and similar community-based activities
- Monitor communication effectiveness and engagement metrics to improve outreach strategies and audience engagement
- Coordinate photography, branding, and visual communication efforts to maintain consistency across School materials
- Support and promote School events, presentations, community outreach, and public engagement activities
- Supervise and support communications staff, contractors, or student assistants as assigned

Requirements
Do you have experience in Writing skills?, * Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field
- Minimum of 2 years of professional communications experience, preferably within an educational, nonprofit, or mission-driven organization
- Demonstrated experience managing communication campaigns, branding, and media relations
- Excellent written, verbal, editing, and interpersonal communication skills
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
- Ability to maintain professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality, * Master’s degree in Communications, Education, Marketing, or a related field
- Experience working in an independent school, nonprofit, or educational environment
- Experience with social media management, website content management systems, email marketing platforms, and digital communication tools
- Familiarity with fundraising and development communications
- Experience analyzing communication metrics and audience engagement data
Skills and Competencies
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading abilities with attention to detail
- Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences in a school community environment
- Strong project management and organizational skills
- Ability to work collaboratively and maintain positive working relationships across departments
- Knowledge of branding, marketing, and digital communication strategies
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, social media platforms, and content management systems
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain confidentiality in sensitive situations
