Job description

  • Full-stack client environments. Windows Server, Azure, Microsoft 365, networking, firewalls, endpoint security, backup and DR. You’re the person who understands how the whole thing fits together - not just your ticket queue.
  • Infrastructure projects, end to end. Server migrations, cloud transitions, network refreshes, security hardening. You scope it, execute it, document it, and close it out clean.
  • Escalations that stumped Level 1 and 2. When the ticket lands on you, it gets solved - or you drive it through the vendor until it does.
  • Client AI adoption (this is where we’re headed). Microsoft 365 Copilot readiness, AI acceptable-use policies, and automation workflows. You don’t need to be an AI engineer today, but you need to be genuinely curious and fast to learn, because our clients will be asking you about it within your first year.
  • Mentoring. Junior techs will watch how you work, write, dress, and talk to clients. You’ll be setting the bar, so the bar has to be worth setting.
  • Documentation in ConnectWise Manage. Complete sentences. Correct grammar. Written so the next engineer - or the client - can actually understand what happened. If you use AI to help write it, you still own every word.

The Professionalism Standard (Non-Negotiable)

We hold a written professionalism standard company-wide, from the service desk to the C-suite. If any of this sounds like too much, we’ve saved us both time:

  • You never leave a client site without touching base. A walk-out without a wrap-up conversation is a failed visit, even if the tech work was flawless.
  • You show up on time and you work the full day. Our hours are 8:30 AM - 5:30 PM. Leaving early to beat traffic isn’t a thing here.
  • You dress the part. Client-facing means client-ready, every day.
  • You communicate like an adult professional. Full sentences in emails and tickets. One-word answers don’t count as answers. Phones down and 100% attention in meetings.
  • You debate honestly. We don’t want yes-people. If you agree, say why. If you disagree, say so - respectfully, with a better idea attached.
  • You own outcomes. Keep your commitments, admit when you’re wrong, and never blame a teammate, a vendor, or a client for your miss., * You troubleshoot from first principles - DNS, DHCP, routing, identity, permissions - instead of rebooting and hoping.
  • You can explain a complex technical decision to a business owner in plain English, and to a vendor engineer in precise technical terms, in the same afternoon.
  • You automate what you’ve done twice. PowerShell isn’t a “preferred qualification” for you - it’s how you think.
  • You read documentation before you open a ticket, and you write documentation others actually use.

Requirements

  • 5+ years in an MSP or comparable multi-client IT environment
  • Deep, demonstrable skills in Microsoft 365, Windows Server, and Azure administration
  • Strong networking fundamentals: firewalls, VLANs, DNS/DHCP, VPN, routing

About the company

Symmetric IT Group is a security-first Managed Services Provider founded in 2008, headquartered in Tampa with offices in Hartford, Kansas City, and Saratoga Springs. We run on EOS (the Entrepreneurial Operating System), which means every seat has a scorecard, every quarter has Rocks, and nobody gets to hide behind vague job descriptions. We are in an aggressive growth phase, and we are building a team of professionals - not just technicians.

We’re hiring one person: a Level 2.5 Field Engineer who can own a client’s entire infrastructure - on-premise, in Azure and Microsoft 365, and increasingly, their AI adoption. You’ll be one of the faces of Symmetric at client sites. That’s a privilege we don’t hand out casually.
