Job description
We are looking for an experienced Senior Software Developer to join a collaborative engineering team developing modern, cloud-based software solutions.
This is a hands-on position for an engineer who enjoys working through complex technical challenges, building reliable software and having a genuine input into how systems are designed and developed.
You will work across application development, APIs, cloud services, data, messaging and containerised environments. Alongside delivering new functionality, you will help improve existing systems, contribute to technical decisions and support the wider development team.
About the opportunity
The role offers the opportunity to work across a modern Microsoft technology stack within a team that values good engineering practices, pragmatic decision-making and continuous improvement.
You will be involved from the early stages of a piece of work through to implementation and deployment, working closely with colleagues across software development, architecture, testing, product and delivery.
The position would suit someone who is comfortable taking ownership of technical problems and who enjoys finding practical solutions rather than simply implementing predefined instructions.
Your day-to-day responsibilities are likely to include:
- Designing, developing and maintaining applications and services using C# and .NET.
- Building APIs and distributed services that are reliable, scalable and maintainable.
- Taking higher-level technical designs and turning them into detailed implementation approaches.
- Breaking requirements into manageable technical tasks and helping establish appropriate development approaches.
- Developing functionality across application, service, messaging and data layers.
- Working with Kubernetes deployment
- Contributing to automated build and deployment processes through Azure DevOps.
- Working with source control, branching strategies, pull requests and CI/CD pipelines.
- Taking part in code reviews and helping establish consistent engineering standards.
- Investigating production and development issues and identifying appropriate technical solutions.
- Improving existing codebases, architecture and development processes.
- Contributing to technical design discussions and wider engineering decisions.
- Helping estimate technical work and identify potential complexity, dependencies and delivery risks.
Requirements
To be successful in this position, you’ll need strong professional experience with:
- C# and .NET.
- Strong understanding of software development principles, including clean code, SOLID principles and maintainable design.
- Experience developing and supporting applications within Microsoft Azure.
- Azure SQL
- Practical experience with Docker and Kubernetes
- Strong experience building REST APIs
The role is hybrid and based in Manchester, offering a combination of office-based collaboration and remote working.
