Design Engineer

Ehmke Manufacturing is seeking a Design Engineer to support the development and production of industrial textile products.

This position is involved throughout the product development process, from initial concepts and customer requirements through sampling, production release, and manufacturing support. Responsibilities include product design, pattern development, bills of materials, cut lists, production routing, and technical documentation.

The Design Engineer will work closely with Sales, Production, Quality, and other members of the Engineering team. The position may also support new product development for military and tactical applications.

Responsibilities

• Create and revise product designs, patterns, drawings, and technical documentation
• Develop bills of materials, cut lists, material requirements, and production routings
• Support the development of samples, prototypes, templates, and production aids
• Work with Sales and customers to understand product requirements and develop practical design solutions
• Participate in design reviews and document design changes, improvements, and revisions
• Support prototype development and first article production
• Work with Production to resolve manufacturing issues and improve product manufacturability
• Support Lean Manufacturing activities, process improvements, and mistake proofing efforts
• Work with Quality to support applicable procedures, documentation, and ISO requirements
• Assist with new product development and evaluation of materials, construction methods, and manufacturing processes
• Perform other engineering related duties as needed
• Some travel may be required

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field preferred
• An associate degree in a related field combined with relevant industrial experience may also be considered
• Three or more years of engineering or manufacturing experience preferred
• Experience with ISO 9001 or AS9100 quality systems is preferred
• Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or Kaizen is a plus, * Must be a United States citizen or permanent resident
• Experience with CAD software, preferably AutoCAD
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and customer requirements
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and general computer applications
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Comfortable working directly with production personnel and supporting manufacturing activities
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities

• Salary based on experience
• Four-day workweek, Monday through Thursday, 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM
