This Limited-Term (LT) position may be extended up to 24 months and has the possibility of becoming permanent.
Under the general supervision of the Technology Services Division (TSD) Information Technology Business Management Section, Project Management Office/Business Analytics Director, Information Technology Manager I, the Information Technology Associate (IT Associate) works to provide a wide variety of tasks requiring regular innovative problem solving within broadly stated and non-specific guidelines. The scope typically includes multiple program areas, and involves planning, developing, and implementing technological solutions that are essential to the missions of the overall organization, or affecting large numbers of people on a long-term or continuous basis in the Business Technology Management domain.
The primary duties of the IT Associate lie within the Business Technology Management domain of the IT Associate classification. This includes elements such as: IT policy and program development, IT portfolio management, IT procurement, process reengineering, business analysis, research and development, strategic planning, product and/or delivery strategy., The mission of the Department of State Hospitals (DSH) is to provide evaluation and treatment in a safe and responsible manner, seeking innovation and excellence in hospital operations, across a continuum of care and settings. DSH-Sacramento is in a new modern, sustainable and innovative 11 story office building located at 1215 âOâ Street, Sacramento, California. Some of the amenities of the new building include the following:
- First-floor retail space (separate access from 12th Street)
- CafĂŠ with multiple vendors available to the public
- Outdoor seating with pedestrian walkways
- Large, shared conference room on the first floor with a maximum capacity of 162 individuals
- An employee fitness center with a yoga studio, cardio equipment and weights
- Plaza area with a kitchenette on each floor
- Lactation rooms
- More conference rooms and collaborative working spaces available throughout the building - small, medium and large
- Shared Terrace space on the 10th floor with indoor/outdoor seating and views of the Capitol

- Provide an example of how you have acted as a liaison between end-users, technical teams, and other stakeholders to analyze, design, test, and maintain IT systems.
Requirements
Individuals who are currently in the classification, eligible for lateral transfer, eligible for reinstatement, have list or LEAP eligibility, are in the process of obtaining list eligibility, or have SROA and/or Surplus eligibility (please attach your letter, if available). SROA and Surplus candidates are given priority; therefore, individuals with other eligibility may be considered in the event no SROA or Surplus candidates apply. Individuals who are eligible for a Training and Development assignment may also be considered for this position(s)., In addition to evaluating each candidateâs relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
- Experience supporting IT intake processes, preparing intake documentation, and tracking requests through their lifecycle.
- Experience documenting business processes, requirements, use cases, and assisting with basic test scripts/plan execution.
- Experience coordinating project activities, scheduling and facilitating meetings, and managing action items.
- Experience consolidating and analyzing project status, timelines, milestones, and dependencies.
- Experience creating and maintaining reports or dashboards using Microsoft Excel, SharePoint, or similar tools.
- Experience organizing and maintaining document libraries and SharePoint sites.
- Experience performing business analysis, researching potential solutions, and preparing summary recommendations.
- Experience working with both technical and non-technical staff with strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience supporting IT procurement or purchasing tasks and preparing required documentation.
- Exposure to Agile practices (Scrum or Kanban) and basic familiarity with work-tracking tools.
Benefits & conditions
- This position reports to the Allenby Building in Sacramento County and may be eligible and considered for a telework opportunity in accordance with departmental policies, operational needs, and management approval. Employees are currently required to work in-person at least four (4) days per week in alignment with Executive Order N-22-25. Additional in-office days may be required based on operational needs. The incumbent may also be required to travel throughout California as needed, with prior notice
- DSH-Sacramento is located at an 11-floor high rise building.
- The Stateâs Commute Programs provide bicycle, mass transit and vanpool incentives to eligible state employees. The Stateâs mass transit incentive pays 100% of the transit pass up to the IRS maximum of $340 per month in 2026., Benefit information can be found on the CalHR website and the CalPERS website.
