Job description

Role: Design Engineer Start: ASAP, pending the result of a completed medical assessment, which does include a Drug and Alcohol test This is a dynamic, hands-on role combining plant and office-based work, including site visits to ensure successful implementation of designs across Port Talbot and Llanwern. Responsibilities:

  • Leading the development of mechanical designs for capital projects and plant performance improvements.
  • Approving and validating in-house designs and evaluating those from third-party suppliers.
  • Providing technical expertise to resolve plant and equipment failures or inefficiencies.
  • Collaborating across technical teams, project engineers, and external engineering partners.
  • Ensuring all outputs comply with quality assurance and regulatory standards.
  • Using CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Microstation) to deliver high-quality design outputs.
  • Mentoring and supporting other engineers to share best practice across the team.

Requirements

Are you a qualified Mechanical Engineer with a passion for innovation? Do you have experience delivering design solutions in a heavy industrial environment? Are you looking to join a team shaping the future of steel production?, * Degree qualified (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.

  • Minimum of five years’ experience in a similar role, ideally within manufacturing or heavy industry.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and/or Microstation).
  • Confident in performing engineering design calculations for mechanical components and structural fabrications.
  • Solid understanding of engineering standards and safety regulations, such as the Health & Safety at Work Act.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to present ideas clearly to engineers and external partners.
