ESSENTIAL DUTIES & PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: This position provides Tier 1 technical support for hardware, software, networking, and classroom technology issues throughout Braintree Public Schools. The IT Technician I serves as a frontline support resource for staff and students by responding to helpdesk requests, troubleshooting technical issues, supporting classroom instruction, and assisting with district-wide technology deployments and initiatives. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong problem-solving abilities, professionalism, and customer service while supporting an environment focused on high-quality teaching and learning. This position is based within the Technology Department and may provide support across all district buildings as assigned.
Responsibilities include:
- Respond to and resolve Tier 1 helpdesk tickets submitted by District staff and students in a timely and professional manner.
- Provide support at the Technology Help Desk at South Middle School and other locations as assigned.
- Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, operating system, printing, login, and connectivity issues for staff and student devices.
- Support Chromebooks, Windows desktops/laptops, Google Workspace applications, printers, copiers, and classroom instructional technology.
- Provide technical support for projectors, interactive displays, speakers, document cameras, and other classroom A/V equipment.
- Perform basic troubleshooting of networking issues including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and wireless connectivity.
- Provide on-site, remote, phone, and email support throughout the District depending on operational needs and issue severity.
- Assist with device setup, imaging, deployment, inventory tracking, maintenance, repairs, and lifecycle replacement projects.
- Assist with account management and maintenance within Active Directory, Google Admin Console, and other district technology systems.
- Maintain accurate documentation and updates within the District’s helpdesk ticketing system to ensure responsive communication and task completion.
- Assist with technology inventory management and asset tracking.
- Work collaboratively with Technology Department staff on district technology initiatives, cybersecurity practices, and operational projects.
- Support district technology standards, procedures, cybersecurity expectations, and acceptable use policies.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment and professional appearance.
- Participate in occasional evening or summer technology support activities as needed.
- Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Technology.
Requirements
- CompTIA A+, Google Workspace, or equivalent certification preferred.
- Associate’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field preferred, or a minimum of two years of experience in a technical support position, preferably in a school setting. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience may be considered.
- Experience supporting Chromebooks, Windows laptops/desktops, printers, and classroom instructional technology.
- Basic knowledge of network infrastructure, TCP/IP networking, DNS, DHCP, and hardware/software troubleshooting.
- Experience with Google Workspace for Education, Active Directory, Mobile Device Management (MDM) systems, and helpdesk ticketing systems preferred.
- Audio/visual experience with projectors, interactive displays, speakers, document cameras, and classroom presentation systems is desirable.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills with the ability to work collaboratively with staff, students, administrators, and families.
- Ability to clearly explain technical concepts and solutions in a professional and user-friendly manner.
- Self-motivated, organized, and capable of working independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Ability to move computers, peripherals, network hardware, and other technology equipment throughout District buildings.
- Willingness to stay current with emerging technologies, cybersecurity practices, and educational technology trends.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
- Ability to lift and move equipment up to 25 pounds without assistance.
- Candidates holding Massachusetts Teacher Licensure in Digital Literacy/Computer Science (DLCS) or Instructional Technology (IT) may be given special consideration.
- Candidates with an Electrician D License or higher may be given special consideration.
Benefits & conditions
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: LongTerm Substitute Position Eight (8) weeks of coverage, anticipated to begin the first week of December 2026. Hours: Approximately 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
SALARY: $135 per day
EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated by the Director of Technology or designee in accordance with District policy and the responsibilities outlined in this job description.
