Job description
An established independent school in Kensington and Chelsea is seeking a capable and service-focused IT Support Technician to join its technical support team. The school makes extensive use of digital technology to support teaching, learning, communication and administration, and is committed to maintaining reliable systems for pupils and staff.
The successful candidate will help ensure that computers, classroom equipment, networks and software remain operational and that technical issues are resolved efficiently. Working with teaching staff, administrators and senior colleagues, the technician will contribute to a dependable and secure digital environment.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a background in IT support who enjoys troubleshooting, helping users and working in a busy educational setting. The Role
The IT Support Technician will provide first-line technical assistance across the school, responding to hardware, software, connectivity and account-access issues.
Responsibilities will include diagnosing faults, resolving common technical problems and escalating more complex issues where necessary. The postholder will assist with setting up computers, installing approved software, preparing devices for new staff and ensuring that classroom equipment is ready for use.
The role will involve supporting interactive displays, projectors, printers and other audio-visual equipment used during lessons, meetings and presentations. The technician may be required to provide practical assistance when technical issues arise during the school day, helping minimise disruption to teaching and learning.
The successful candidate will maintain records of IT requests, completed repairs and equipment allocation. They will assist with routine system checks, software updates, device maintenance and user account administration, following the school’s IT procedures.
Cybersecurity and data protection will be important considerations. The postholder will follow established policies for managing access permissions, handling confidential information and reporting potential security concerns. They will also help ensure that equipment is stored securely and that technical resources are used appropriately.
The technician will contribute to the smooth running of the wider IT service by identifying recurring issues, sharing guidance with staff and suggesting practical improvements to technical support processes.
Requirements
Candidates should have previous experience in IT support, technical assistance or a similar role. A good understanding of Windows operating systems, computer hardware, Microsoft 365 and basic networking would be advantageous.
Applicants should have strong troubleshooting skills, a methodical approach and the ability to explain technical issues clearly to users with varying levels of IT confidence.
Experience with educational technology, school management systems or device management tools would be beneficial. The successful candidate must be reliable, approachable and able to prioritise support requests effectively while maintaining professional standards around safeguarding and data security.
