Job description

As well as providing line management responsibility for at least one IT Technician which will include coaching, mentoring and performance management, the IT Officer will be working with the Staff Electro Technical Officer and be responsible for the testing, maintenance and repair of IT systems / equipment onboard our ships, both hardware and software. This will include fixing where possible and replacing where not, and reporting faults to the senior officer as appropriate., The IT Officer will proactively manage, prioritise, escalate and/or resolve incidents related to the Ships IT systems which include Network Infrastructure, Applications, Desktop, End User Hardware, iCafe, iATV , and VSAT. You will be managing open incident queues ensuring regular updates are provided to users and shore teams whilst liaising directly with vendors as and when required.

Other responsibilities will include:

  • Supervise and train IT Technicians
  • Managing Service Request Queues ensuring that all SR s are delivered within SLA including software and hardware
  • Proactively monitor key applications and hardware and resolve or escalate issues as required
  • Carrying out proactive maintenance of Ships IT hardware
  • Proactively carry out problem management and identify root causes of issues and reducing incidents onboard and identify areas for service improvement and provide recommendations to the Technology Department ashore
  • Assist shore and onboard project teams throughout a project lifecycle from requirements gathering to implementation and service transition
  • Join the Project Team as Ships IT SME for large projects such as newbuilds and refits
  • Ensure all ships IT inventories are maintained
  • Ensure all Ships IT systems remain secure through application of security patches, updates and regular monitoring of systems and applications
  • Assist with the security and fault-finding of Shops OT systems when required
  • Follow and actively promote IT Security and compliance process and procedures onboard
  • Ensure that all tasks are carried out safely and in accordance with all current safety and company regulations
  • Provide assistance to other crew members as required

Requirements

Degree or HND level qualification in an IT related subject.

As IT Officer you will have at least 2 years experience in an onboard Senior IT Technician role and would have demonstrated good working knowledge in the following areas:

  • Line management experience
  • Windows Desktop support, install, deploy via SCCM and troubleshooting
  • Support and maintenance of Microsoft servers
  • Administration and support with Active Directory
  • Microsoft application
  • Preferably qualified to Microsoft MCSA in Windows 10 or equivalent
  • Preferably qualified to Microsoft MCSA level in server 2016 or 2012

You must be able to demonstrate good working knowledge of supporting local area networks across our ships including but not limited to:

  • Network Switches
  • WiFi Controllers and AP s
  • Good understanding of Firewalls in terms of their technology and functionality

You should be able to demonstrate good understanding in supporting and operating maritime VSAT systems and be able to demonstrate an in depth understanding of all aspects of IT operations such as incident, problem and change management. You must also be able to demonstrate the ability to work to and meet SLA s and carry out proactive problem management.
