Job description

As they look to the future with their newly created Technology and Innovation department, a key addition is a Data Engineer to join their growing data function. Reporting to the new Data and Analytics Manager, you will lead the optimisation of data workflows and infrastructure to support data analysis, policy development and service operational efficiency.

The role would suit someone from a core Data and BI background with legacy technologies, but with the ambition to work with innovative products such as Microsoft Fabric and AI.

The role:

  • Lead the production of relevant data models across multiple functional areas, comparing and aligning different models and explaining which models to use for which purpose.
  • Responsible for evaluating, selecting and implementing the appropriate technologies to deliver resilient, scalable and future proofed data solutions.
  • Undertake data profiling and source system analysis, presenting clear insights to support the end use of the data.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including technical and non-technical stakeholders across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Design, build and test data products that are complex or large scale.
  • Responsible for responding to problems in databases, data processes, data products and services.
  • Responsible for reviewing requirements and specifications and for defining testing conditions.
  • Use agreed standards and tools to design, code, test, correct and document.
  • Ensure solutions which are implemented are developed in line with industry security and compliance standards.
  • Be an advocate for innovative use of data and promoting use of end user tools to enable services to provide their own reporting capability.
  • Responsibility for designing and leading the implementation of data flows to connect operational systems, data for analytics and business intelligence systems.
  • Ensure effective horizon scanning is in place to understand the impact on the organisation of emerging trends in data tools, analysis techniques and data usage.

Requirements

Do you have experience in SQL?, * Proven skills (SQL) and experience in leading on data warehousing projects

  • Significant experience of data modelling and ETL/ELT processes is essential
  • Knowledge of programming languages e.g Java and Python is advantageous
  • Level 3 qualification in a relevant subject area or extensive experience
