Job description

We are looking for a skilled and customer-focused IT Technician to support IT systems, infrastructure, and users. The role involves hands-on technical work, day-to-day user support, and assisting with system maintenance across a varied and busy environment., * Support and maintain Windows and Linux servers, desktops, and IT equipment

  • Deploy and manage staff and Library computers, ensuring reliable performance
  • Assist with network infrastructure maintenance and upgrades
  • Design and apply policies to streamline PC deployment, enhance security, and improve user experience
  • Provide frontline support to staff, students, academics, and visitors
  • Manage anti-virus/security software and monitor system health
  • Diagnose and repair faulty IT equipment
  • Control and update user accounts, mailing lists, and access systems
  • Perform administrative tasks on CCTV, Door Access Control, and EPOS systems
  • Carry out annual or ad-hoc DSE assessments
  • Manage the IT support inbox and triage or redirect tasks appropriately
  • Provide cover for the IT Manager when required
  • Offer support to other University units as agreed

Requirements

Do you have experience in macOS?, * Knowledge of security best practices, including anti-virus and anti-malware tools

  • Understanding of TCP/IP and network communication technologies

  • Working knowledge of Linux, macOS, Android, iOS, and Windows OS
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage time effectively and prioritise workload
  • Familiarity with Active Directory, Group Policy, and domain management
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and common software configuration, Please be aware that all candidates need to be able to start work immediately and must be able to work on site if required to do so.

Benefits & conditions

The position is set to commence ASAP and will be full-time for an initial duration of 12 weeks with a pay rate of £16.92 per hour + holiday pay
