Job description
The objective of this PhD is to contribute to the advanced development of Olenergies' battery digital twin, which is already under construction as part of the industrial DIGIBATT project. The work will focus on integrating the complete digitalization of the lithium battery lifecycle-from design and component selection to recycling-and on enriching the digital twin with predictive models, hybrid physics-AI approaches, and new energy-management capabilities, particularly under variable photovoltaic production and grid constraints.
Thesis Objective:
- Design an intelligent and sustainable digital twin of lithium batteries capable of:
- Integrating data from all stages of the battery lifecycle,
- Combining physical modeling, statistical approaches, and machine learning,
- Predicting battery performance, lifetime, and the obsolescence of peripheral components,
- Optimizing battery energy usage, particularly in the presence of renewable energy sources, to support a more reliable, flexible, and resilient power grid,
- Integrating a local predictive control strategy aimed at minimizing energy reinjection into the grid, while accounting for the stochastic nature of renewable energy production and the variability of load profiles.
- Optionally, being integrated into a global BESS architecture coupled with an active filter to improve power quality both on the system output and on the grid side.
Requirements
Master Degree or equivalent, * Expertise in distributed energy systems integrating BESS and renewable energies-key elements for national energy sovereignty,
- Proficiency in digital twin technologies, applied AI, and lifecycle performance prediction,
- Skills in power quality and active filtering techniques,
- Ability to analyze sustainable development projects from technical and techno-economic perspectives,
- Strong knowledge of obsolescence management, life-cycle assessment (LCA), and technological durability,
- Proven experience in teamwork and the management of industrial and academic projects.
Specific Requirements
- Solid understanding of energy systems, particularly batteries and renewable energies,
- Curiosity, scientific rigor, and a strong interest in innovation.
