In the role of Fisheries Data Manager at Wageningen Marine Research, you are an indispensable link in safeguarding the quality of data in our databases. Through quality checks, data imports and data extractions, you support researchers in their work. In addition, you are an important point of contact for database developers when new information from research needs to be stored in databases.
Your tasks and responsibilities as Fisheries Data Manager include:
- Carefully checking research data and ensuring it is stored in one of the WMR databases.
- Advising project leaders on the correct methods for data entry.
- Creating metadata records for data collections.
- Optimising quality control procedures in collaboration with other data managers.
- Acting as a link between researchers' requirements for data storage and database developers.
- Supplying data to WMR data portals or those of other organisations.
Team As the link between data collection and data use, you will be part of various project teams. Most of the data you will work with relates to sampling carried out on board fishing vessels. Your base team will initially be the thematic team for fisheries research and innovation.
Wageningen Marine Research and IT environment We operate in an applied scientific environment focused on marine and freshwater ecology, where we collect and store field data for analyses and complex models. You will work closely with the other three fisheries data managers, as well as with colleagues who collect and enter data and project leaders who carry out analyses. You will also regularly collaborate with the WMR IT team, which consists of a database developer, functional administrator, technical administrator, application developer, subject-matter data specialist and information manager., You will work on the greenest and most innovative campus in the Netherlands, in an international and open working environment. You will work here Wageningen Marine Research (WMR) is a leading marine ecological research institute employing approximately 200 people. Requirements
Specific Requirements
Above all, you enjoy acting as a bridge between two disciplines: substantive research and database development. You are able to work well both independently and as part of a team. You work accurately and have a proactive, solution-oriented attitude.
You also have:
- A completed higher professional education (HBO) qualification, preferably in a biological field, or demonstrable equivalent working and thinking level gained through experience;
- Proven experience with programming in SQL, Python, R and/or other programming languages;
- An interest in (fish) biology;
- Proficiency in Dutch, both spoken and written.

We offer, depending on your experience, a competitive gross salary of between € 2,979,- and € 4,374.- for a full-time working week of 36 hours, in accordance with the CLA Wageningen Research (scale 7/8). Additionally a contract for 24 to 36 hours can be discussed. As for your contract, we initially offer a one-year contract that can be extended - if possible within (company) organizational circumstances - on good performance.
