Job description

Serco is embarking on an exciting multi-cloud transformation. Our cloud estate today is predominantly Microsoft Azure, but we are now starting our AWS journey - and this role sits right at the heart of it. As one of our Hybrid Cloud Technical Leads, you'll play a pivotal role in defining, guiding and delivering AWS capability across the organisation.

This is a rare chance to get in at the beginning, bring your AWS expertise, and help drive the strategy, adoption and implementation of AWS across a complex, enterprise environment.

As one of our Hybrid Cloud Technical Leads, you'll be responsible for delivering the technical vision for Serco's hybrid and cloud infrastructure services. You'll work closely with stakeholders, operational teams, business units and third-party partners to design, build and run scalable, secure cloud solutions.

While the role includes architecture responsibilities, we're looking for someone who enjoys being hands-on, understands how things work in production, and can translate that experience into practical, high-quality designs. You don't need to be a "pure" architect yet. If you're strong on AWS engineering and ready to step up into architecture and technical leadership, we want to hear from you.

As part of this you'll:

  • Work with the Hybrid Cloud Product Owner and other technical and business stakeholders to define functional and non-functional requirements
  • Drive the design and implementation of AWS and hybrid cloud solutions
  • Produce high-level designs, deployment models and configuration standards
  • Partner with engineering teams and 3rd parties to deliver and evolve the Hybrid Cloud Service
  • Support bids, solution designs and AWS adoption across central and regional operations
  • Ensure services meet performance, security, cost and service level targets
  • Support new services into live, including architecture options, cost models and delivery plans
  • Act as a confident, engaging technical voice with customers and senior stakeholders
  • Continuously improve the service by staying current with cloud technologies and best practices

Requirements

You're an experienced cloud practitioner with a strong AWS foundation. To date, your background may lean more towards engineering than architecture. What matters most is your AWS capability, curiosity, and potential to grow into a broader technical leadership role.

  • Strong, hands-on experience with AWS (core requirement)
  • Experience designing and supporting hybrid cloud environments
  • Knowledge of cloud security, compliance and best practices
  • Solid understanding of compute, storage, networking and data services
  • Experience with DevOps, CI/CD, automation and Infrastructure as Code
  • Familiarity with containers (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Monitoring, performance and reliability tooling
  • Cost management and optimisation in cloud or hybrid environments
  • Understanding of ITIL processes and Agile ways of working
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage technical and non-technical audiences
  • Collaborative, proactive and comfortable making decisions
  • Desire to continuously learn and improve
  • AWS certifications are a strong advantage (but not mandatory)
  • Other cloud or relevant experience and certifications welcomed
