Job description
The Design Manager will lead the coordination, development, and delivery of design information across major residential and mixed-use schemes. Working closely with internal development teams, external consultants, and contractors, you will ensure that all designs meet quality, programme, budget, and regulatory targets from pre-planning through to handover., Design Leadership
- Lead and manage the design process from concept and planning stages through detailed design, construction, and completion.
- Coordinate multi-disciplinary design teams including architects, structural and M&E engineers, and specialist consultants.
- Develop and maintain the design programme, ensuring timely delivery of information aligned with project milestones.
Technical & Quality Management
- Review and critique design documents to ensure buildability, compliance, and cost-effectiveness.
- Ensure all designscomply withcurrent building regulations, planning conditions, and industry standards (including fire and safety).
- Support value engineering while safeguarding quality and design intent.
Project Coordination
- Work closely with development managers, project managers, and with in-house construction team and partners (Domis) to address design issues promptly.
- Lead technical workshops, design reviews, and coordination meetings.
- Manage RFI processes, change control, and design risk registers.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Liaise with planning authorities, statutory bodies, and external consultants throughout the design and delivery process.
- Communicate design decisions clearly to contractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
Construction Support
- Provide ongoing design support during construction phases, resolving technical issues and ensuring smooth delivery.
- Monitor the quality of architectural and engineering outputs on-site.
Requirements

- Strong understanding of UK Building Regulations, fire compliance, construction sequencing, and technical detailing.
- Demonstrable experience coordinating consultants across all RIBA stages.
- Excellent organisational, coordination, and communication skills.
- Ability to work autonomously within a developer environment.
Desirable
- Experience working with design-and-build contractors or developer/contractor hybrid structures.
- Knowledge of MMC (Modern Methods of Construction), high-rise design, and complex city-centre logistics.
- Familiarity with Revit/BIM processes., * Proactive, solution-focused, and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong commercial awareness with the ability to balance design quality and cost considerations.
- Collaborative mindset with the confidence to challenge and guide consultants constructively.
